FPS boost CMAA vs FXAA
Hello I am looking for some FPS boost. Its better to use CMAA (I heard its only for intel CPU but i dont know) or FXAA (which quality, dont see quality differences between FXAA ultra - low).

My rig: MSI gtx 1060 armor 6gb OC, 16 gb RAM, CPU AMD FX 8320e 4ghz and play arma on SSD.

difference will be negligable on 99% on maps/scenes. Arma3 FPS is only affected by CPU usage. Infact,by putting MORE stress on the GPU you should GAIN FPS as the CPU should be lest used(in theory)..

for example, putting shadows on low puts the work on the CPU...But if you put the shadows on ULTRA,the GPU handles hem, taking stress off the CPU.

Source=3000 hours in Arma3

FPS boost ,turn it off.

Upgrading the CPU is your only hope, It's your biggest achilles heel when it comes to Arma,

And even then you get diminishing returns the more you upgrade.
The game still doesn't take advantage of cores. I didn't hardly see a difference in upgrading from a 4790k to 9900k. In fact, you may even see better performance on one of those rare 4790ks that can be overclocked to 5+ghz.

I personally just turn off V-Sync. But I primarily snipe. So quick movements aren't a huge deal for me.

I would advise against overclocking.

That's probably because you're playing on server with a poorly made gamemode on it!
The difference you will see on well made modes for SP/Co-op/MP will be like night and day, So it highly depends on the users use case.

When i changed from a FX-8350 like the op's to a i7 6700k playing on our highly modded servers i got 3x more fps with 3x more V/D and even higher settings.

You went from an AMD with bad single core performance to Intel with great single core performance...
That's what happened for you. Now upgrade to a better Intel and tell me if you see any difference. You won't.

Did you even understand the context of the thread and op's situation?

But if you wanna talking about that context,
My mate has a newer Intel and same GPU as mine and he gets a good boost of fps on our server compared to me, Again this comes down to use case, If you ain't playing a poorly made gamemode/server then the difference is greater, like i have already said. Everyone knows this to the point it's Arma trivia 101.

I said upgrading CPU has diminishing returns. Going from an old AMD to an old Intel will see big gains. Going from an old Intel to a new Intel will not because single core performance has been roughly the same since 2012. That's all I'm saying.

I never even disagreed with you, I just added a caveat. I have no idea what you're arguing, but it doesn't involve me.

^That's the point you made and i disagree due to personal experience. Not arguing just correcting a common misconception:steamthumbsup:

What new Intel processor would you upgrade to that has such better single core performance over those of the last decade that you would notice a difference?

Considering the IPC speeds has increased over 30% since mine came out so pretty much any current gen that has 4+core & 8+Threads(For Arma), But if i was actually gonna upgrade it would be for all my games and software i use so i would prefer 6+cores & 12+Threads. But of course would wait for the new ones coming out. But my PC still runs everything i need so personally have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.

And that's before you take into account the gains from another things the Arma 3 engine loves, Faster ram DDR5 upto 4,800MHz supported with current gen.

Fps in single player offline = your cpu + memory + ssd.
Fps in multiplayer online = all above + internet connection.

dont use high graphic in single player because a bot can see you laying in grass.

dont use high graphic in multiplayer since you cant see othe player laying in grass.

just use shadow, and set your visible light to highest set and use high particles. It can show you where your enemy shot from.
