As for the changing between the primary and secondary sights, I already have that figured out a long time ago.
Now, the fix: Go to settings -> controls -> weapons. Look for where it says "optics" and "optics temporary". Since I play on arma 3 alternative, "optics" is bound to numpad zero while "optics temporary" is bound to hold right mouse button. Since I want to be a) continue using hold to aim and b) use my binoculars/nightstalker without having to remove my hand from the mouse, I have rebound it so that "optics" is now double click right mouse ("optics temporary" is still set to hold right mouse). You could also set optics to a single right mouse click, but I find that the game is kinda jank when it comes to differentiate a single click and a hold. While I can't use hold to aim on the nightstalker, I can still hold to aim on other optics, which is nice, and there are only 2 variable zoom scopes in the game (binos + nightstalker), so this shouldn't be too big of an issue.
This fix should also work for anyone else using a hold to aim control scheme, such as industry standard or your very own custom scheme. Just make sure there are no key conflicts.
I swear this wouldn't even be a problem if they didn't make it so that holding down the zoom key maxes out the zoom of variable scopes. Like we already have the plus/minus buttons to change zoom levels, what's the point of this "feature"?
