Arma 3

Experience with i7 10700K?
Hey guys, I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU on my desktop PC (amongst some other parts) not only for Arma, but it is a main drive and who knows, how CPU heavy a future Arma 4 or similar title might be.

So I've read a bit, what processors are on the market right now and it seems that the new i7-10700K delivers the most GhZ per core with the most turbo ability.

Right now, with my i5-6700K on my desktop PC in KotH I achieve around 15-40 FPS in CQB-Combat in Cities (depending on player count). I got 16 GB RAM and a GeForce 1070 with 8 GB VRAM. I utilize Ultra settings, I tried going down to low, that hardly does any difference so imho it shows, that I lack there in the CPU Compartment, if I want to upgrade anything.

I also tried fiddling around with the start-up parameters, that maybe gave me 1-2 extra FPS on average, but not enough for my desires.

In Co-Op Missions with my friends I'm around 30 FPS.

I know, Arma 3 is horribly optimized and that I will probably never reach 60 FPS with 100+ players on a server, but I aim for as much FPS as I can.

Does anyone of you guys already have that CPU and what your average FPS is in Arma 3? I just wanna know, how much improvement I can expect for the high price it costs (although money doesn't really matter in that regard, I do extra hours to earn it ^^)

PS: I also thought about getting an i9-10900K, since I probably have to change the mainboard anyway for newest generation CPU's

AMD's new Ryzen 5**** chips are the fastest current CPU's. Single or multi core.
I upgraded my i7 6700k to a I7 9700k and saw a very small fps improvement in Arma 3.
Im talking 5 fps maybe a little more or less depending on scenario complexity.

I guess you talk about online gaming. I'm sure you gained much more that 5 FPS in single player and editor.

Nope, I don't play online. 10 fps at most.

Also using a Ryzen chip. I really like it and plan on switching to a Ryzen 7 eventually.
Ryzen 5 3600x with a RTX 2060, my rig can play Cyberpunk with max settings and ray tracing on at 1920x1080p around 60fps
I bought an entirely new rig a short while back. Used to have an i5 4400 and got 20-30 fps on a good day in MP. Can't say for the i7 but I saw you mentioning the i9-10900k. I have the 10850k and I can easily get 120-150fps in singleplayer on ultra or very high settings (highest I've had is like 180). Now once you start adding mods and go online ♥♥♥♥ deteriorates hella fast but I stay above 60fps at all times so I can't complain. Defo worth getting if you're able to. It's night and day compared to my old rig.

how does it run in KOTH with 90 people , while being in a city at the beginning and end of the round?

I just dropped a 5800X in my mobo to replace my Ryzen 3600 because I couldn't get a 5600X. Want to know how it performs in Arma 3 and especially Arma 3 multiplayer?

The difference is huge just from the jump up a generation. I am getting 90-145 fps in King of the Hill and about 100 in coop. That is double the 3600. We are talking plus 60 players.

I urge you to consider Ryzen 5000 if Arma is your main go to game. I can't speak for the 5600X but the 5800X has exceeded my expectations in CPU intensive games.

My specs are: Gigabyte X570 Auros Pro, AMD 5800X, RX 5700XT ands 32 GB of 3200 ram. Arma smasher right there.

Running a 5600X here with 16GB Crucial Ballistix 3600Mhz CL16 and it's more or less the same as you. It might still rarely dip into the low 60s-70s depending on the server but the FPS remains consistent most of the time.
