can't get more that 40 fps no matter what
if i switch all of my settings to ultra i'll get 30-40 fps on koth and 20 while in a city
if i switch all of my settings on the lowest settings possible i'll get 40 fps with 30-40 in the city (sometimes i get fps drops)
can i get some helpp?
tried some random vid on the internet which gave me 5-10 more fps
(im measuring my fps only using koth bcuz thats what i play most of the times)

i3 4330 ( a weak one, on a cpu based game) but still tho, lowering the graphics should bring me more fps (atleast 60)

No clue on how that performs, but I can tell you that back when I had my fx 8320, it would get 15-20 online and 20-40 in solo, no matter how high or low the graphics were.

The limiting factor in arma games can be the CPU. Especially the core speed. It doesnt matter how much you lower the graphics in a lot of cases because it just takes load of teh GPU which isnt struggling to begin with. The CPU is working a lot more than other games. All the AI for the entire map are being controlled by your CPU, even if they are 10 KMS away. Its not like other more simple games which just spawn in AI as you get close.

You can also be hampered by the servers performance if playing online. So you can have a PC twice as powerful as yours and only get a few FPS extra.

You need a very powerful CPU, and controlled expectations about what you can get in some MP servers. Some are OK and I can get solid 80 FPS, but most are not set up well and I'll get 50 FPS.

Its probably the processor being so low.

Actually like NathaN said there is a balance between CPU/GPU settings. You should google for Arma 3 settings low fps, you'll find a list detailing which settings you should choose to minimize impact on your CPU.

Single-core dominant engine the game can't use more than 1 core. So it therefore is incapable of providing the GPU with sufficient workload to keep it busy. The consequence of this is low FPS, about 85% of the game is running on a single-thread. Including the renderer which has been pointed out by other people that the DirectX API is not even the limiting factor it's ArmA 3's code itself the way the renderer works it is stuck in the "simulation update loop" as soon as You push more work the engine can't cope. You'll often see in games with a good deal of parallelism using both the CPU and GPU pretty heavily, upto 50% in games where threads were optimized for multi-core systems, Battlefield 1 is a perfect example.

Cities put a lot of load on the rendering loop, you generally get pretty poor FPS in cities.

Thanks to everyone for helping me. Looks like i should buy a new cpu if i want more fps+ the settings i have to google so i can get stable fps until i get a new cpu. Thanks again :D

Does it only happen in MP or SP? MP performance is determined by the server, mission, # of clients, etc. You'll probably see an incrase in fps with a new cpu, but don't expect large gains if you're playing on a 60+ pop server running 3rd party missions that aren't optimized

I have the latest i7 7700K and in KOTH get about 40FPS on ultra in town in battle on ultra. Then again I am running at about 5000x1080 over three monitors. With just one I would be on about 60FPS on 2550.

In single player? If so, your pc is broken.

No it's not. You are such a troll, ignorant troll.
Ignorant troll? I have a 1080 and an i5 3570k......if my fps drop to 50 in single player ill throw the pc in the bin.

Mission are unoptimized like KOTH too much script (antihack, shop, playerstat...) and often server got setting to keep player sync, that will slowdown everybody for avoid rollback on high populated server.
Same with Liberation or Altis Life too much script are running in town that cause perf issues.

I think the optimized mission for public server with nice frame its Invade and annex, BECTI, Wasteland and Exile.

Server is not the problem on client performance, you can get 3 FPS server side and got +50 FPS client side but there will be a lot of rollback.

There a big problem on Arma 3 mission, now there a lot of stupid people on this game and mission maker must write huge script for avoid issues on public server, all that script kick in every second for each player or for a specific zone, because a lot of stupid people come on a server just for ruin a game.

Just an exemple if you must manage an anti bomb script for spawning area, teamkill script, custom anti hack script, vehicle owner script, vehicle and weapon script, weapon restriction script, playerstat script, player persistence script..... you lost easely 20-30 fps on a high populated server.

On A3 with a i5 or FX + a GTX 750ti on a optimized mission like few script for gameplay enhancement and not more than 100 AI simulated you can get a solid 60 fps with 20-30 ppl on a home server.

There is few mods too that kill the performance like JSRS sound mod, ACE, Veteran, Vcom AI...

+ Arma 3 become worst over the time the first final release was good they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up something on the pre-apex update (visual upgrade), if you don't trust me just download a cracked version 1.58 put 70 AI fighting in Kavala and do the same thing on your actual steam version the 1.58 run smoothly and the LOD on the building look better.

And the last thing there a lot of lier on steam forum about a solid 80 FPS, KOTH in Kavala with 100 players nobody got more than 50 fps, with a i7 6700 K + GTX 1050 you will get 40-50 fps if your lucky and if you set your object view distance at 700m.

The best thing if you want test a server just look at the sky you must have a solid +80 FPS if you are under 40-50 just leave.

Thank you for this information, you're really helpful. I will still buy a new cpu because playing this game against bots ( and yeah i play a lot of invade and annex) doesn't feel as rewarding as a koth server or other pvp servers ( didn't play anything else than these 2 mods)(and i'll try different pvp servers) ( i had to respond to ur comment like rn bcuz u were so helpful and i'll probably have forgotten by this time to thank you). And sorry for bad english.
