Arma 3
Upgrade Intel Core i7-6700 to Intel Core i7-7700k for ArmA 3?
I play ArmA 3 with everything on max settings, I want to upgrade my Intel Core i7-6700(not k) to an Intel Core i7-7700k (mostly for ArmA 3) and i was wondering if it is worth it.

Yes for the higher clock speeds out of the box, but only if you can get a good price for your 6700

If you had got the k version of the 6700k you wouldn't need to upgrade at all as the 7700k is just a slightly overclocked 6700k and you could had overclocked the 6700k yourself saving money and time

im sorry but upgrade for what? there will be little to no actual performance difference as your frames are well over 60 im sure.. i get over 60 with my i7 4790k, i don't think you need an upgrade you just want to spend money on your rig trust me i understand lol i feel the same sometimes

Assuming the rest of your computer has what it takes to support an overclocked CPU (check the motherboard and CPU cooling for viability), you will likely see a 10-20 FPS boost from overclocking 500 MHz or more.

The 7700k also has some upgrades from the 6700 that will result in a minor IPC (Instructions Per Clock) boost, which will result in a small but reasonable boost at the same frequency.

The 7700k will give you minimal performance gain for the price; keep the 6700. Just look at the benchmarks; almost identical. Maybe a 3-5fps increase
IMO-Don't waste your money

The potential of overclocking the CPU will result in substantial FPS increases, although I recommend waiting another generation if the 6700's results are still satisfactory.

Well tbh we don't really know if it's worth it since he didn't list current specs, or performance.

It all depends on if his system will even support OC'ing

He says in the OP that he runs everything on Ultra settings, which indicates to me that the 6700 is doing pretty good right now. If it wasn't performing adequately, he would lower the settings. Waiting another generation for the "8700k" would probably do him a lot of good.

I have :
cpu: Intel Core i7-6700
gpu: Nvdia GeForce GTX 980ti 6gb Golden Edition
motherboard: Z170A PC MATE (MS-7971)
cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T4
storage pc: 223gb (HDD)
storage (that i use): 4tb Seagate Expansion Desktop (HDD)
ram: 16gb

I get around 45 to 60fps when i'm walking around with no or to 15 ai on the map,
i like to play ai battles so my fps drops till 15 to 20fps with >60 ai but that's normal (i think)

Your FPS with that many AI troops is perfectly normal. Your regular FPS is playable and your weakest link is either your storage or your CPU. Putting in a Solid State Drive would help your loading times and your FPS by a decent percentage, but the CPU is the weakest part besides that. Your GPU is solid.

You can probably hold off of the 7700k if the price is a considerable sum for you and wait for the 8700k, should take from a year to a year and a half for it to release.

ok thanks :)

A SSD don't give you more fps but will make the fps you did get with a HHD feel smother
El Berl Jul 6, 2017 @ 9:41am
In effect, giving you more average FPS, hence more frames.

Won't change anything but feel smother and less texture popping!, does not change avg fps at all!
El Berl Jul 6, 2017 @ 9:45am
If it "feels" smoother, then you're effectively getting more frames. It's a semantics thing, hence why I said "in effect". SSDs will reduce pop-ins and enable faster loading times. In addition, switching from RAM to storage and back will be dramatically faster and result in minute framerate improvements over an HDD, especially while in aircraft and fast-moving vehicles.

But the fps counter will always say the same right?
