Shotguns dont work in engine for breaching so theres not really a point

Combat usage is very limited outside of being used as a tool(Such as for removing hinges and bolts on doors). I would assume the decision to not add them is due to the lack of usage in ARMA 2, the only shotgun that I had ever seen used in ARMA 2 by other players was the AA-12 for the obvious advantages it had(Such as frag and HE ammo). Though it pretty much will gimp you in most circumstances unless you use it for breaching a door or plan to be in only a close quarters area the entire time(I mean less than 30 meters is the max potential combat range).

There is a rather good mod that simulates it, but yea it is rather disappointing that something so common in real life is not added by default.

The only reason i see is that the engine is retarded. ie 1 pellet = 1 bullet and you probably know that it doesnt take many bullets to kill.

If handguns barely get used, then how often would shotguns get used? Shotguns are just not useful outside of the mentioned role of breeching. Buckshot would have major issues with combat armour, and slugs would not match up to even a 5.56mm round.

I mean even using HE ammo might be a bit of an issue due to the ban on HE bullets under a certain size. Of course there is also the good old 40mm grenade lancher to provide HE fun at range, and it doesn't cost you your rilfe.

Replying to the wrong person? I mentioned that outside of a 30 meter area(Such as a scripted area you cannot leave) they are utterly useless(Effectively making it useless on the milsim side). Pistols get use quite often in ARMA btw, just not on the Milsim side.

I think they would be nice but not worth your rifle. But if they could be put In your secondary then I would always use them as I love koth and it would be great for clearing buildings.

As most others have said the primary function of shotguns is breaching. Without proper breaching in the game, it's simply not practical to sacrifice the rifle (range, accuracy, rate of fire, ect) for a gun that cannot compete. Most of my engagements are over 100m. I wouldn't want to take a shotgun to one of those fights. In CQB if your first shot misses you're more than likely going to die to his automatic fire.
