How do I disable mouse steering and use the mouse to look around the vehicle

I want to use WSAD to move the vehicle and I want to use the mouse to look around. How do I make this happen?

The hint at the right of the screen says to press left alt to enable steering lock. Ive tried pressing it and double pressing it and nothing happens. I also tried the same with right alt and nothing happens.

Then I tried disabling "steer more left and steer more right" in the options menu and even after hitting ok and returning to the game the character STILL steers with the mouse.

Please tell me I can disable this feature. Thanks.

Should be in the Game options. Just look for an option for "Vehicle Freelook" and enable it.

I see. So is there a way to set it as default or will the game always make me press a button to look around the cabin?

Not sure if you knew this, but if you have the numpad available on a keyboard you can press the "*" button and that will enable free look when using the mouse and then WASD will control the vehicle, that is what I always use most of the time.

With that option enabled. You'll always be able to look around the vehicle without having to press a button. And control your vehicle with WASD. Just enable it and press OK, that should set it as default.

I have the same issue after rebinding middle mouse button to weapons mode, and now i cant turn my car with the keyboard arrows anymore. and the option that is mentioned above does not exist for me.

double tab ALT should work too... works everywhere iirc... it´s been some time

Nope, double ALT not doing anything anymore. So it seems like both options to disable mouse steering are gone now. Hold Alt forever or deal with it, apparently.
