High IPC!

Side note: You still don't need more than 4 cores for gaming in 2018 and won't do for a coulpe of years yet according to LTT

High speed ram with decent latency and any overclocked intel cpu starting from sandy bridge.
above 4.5ghz.

The best value/prize play this game and others is AMD RYZEN 1600/2600 right now.

Buy a 4 core to play arma 3 is a waste a of money, buy a RYZEN with 6c/12t and you have a CPU for the next years.

Sadly the IPC means nothing in the Arma 3 MP you are bound to the server hw config your network speed and server population usually you have 45 fps in the most demanding scenarios.

With a good setup (RYZEN 1600/2600 + 3200MHZ ram) you can play 45-60fps most of the times saving a lot of money.

I use an i5 7600k @3.8, DDR4 RAM @2133, installed on SSD(doesn't matter to much for this game, but GPU is PNY GTX1050ti XLR8 dual fan(with OC)

In SP I always get over 60 no issue. MP, 45-55ish range.

Just depends on the server, scripts, mods etc.

I think a higher core speed is better, being the game utilizes one core being it's an old engine.

No need for a fancy schmancy setup. I can play everything I have on ultra with some tweaking.

Wrong
i3 8350k is much better price to performance for Arma
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-8350K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600/3935vs3919
29% faster single core speeds

PS IPC means everything to Arma 3 MP!

ARMA hates AMD, it's always been that way.

Oh boy here we go, Smash VS Shillacon Round #2. Can Smash handle the man who changes people's quotes and disregards valid points just to make the world's worst ad hominems without any proof whatsoever? Can DJ Shillacon actually prove that V. Berlioz uses multiple accounts to shill for Intel? Find out tonight at the WWE Intel-AMD Pacific Smackdown!

I'll be honest, if ARMA had actual multicore support Ryzens would be extremely competitive but it does not so they're lame. The fault is not with AMD but with ARMA and Intel is far more robust in the single-core department.

So I guess I’ll settle for a i5 7600k so that I can OC it

Thx everyone

A fine choice. Make sure your motherboard and other components work with it.

Yup, don't learn the hard way like I did with Arma2.

Sure will!

I use my RYZEN 7 1800x clocked at 4.0ghz all 8 cores, and a GTX 1080Ti, with 16Gb DDR4 RAM clocked at 3000Mhz. But I sometimes dip in the 40's. Usually though I'm running well over 100 even in my heavily scripted Scenarios... In all Honesty, Arma 3 just isn't optimized M8. :Mstar:

The i3 8350k cheaper, faster once OC'd and has a better upgrade path and is clocked higher out of the box!

The day that i3 came out the 7600k became the most redundant cpu on the market
