Individual shotgun pellets are also very low mass. Lower than a typical 9mm bullet. They're fantastic against soft targets and game within 100yd (buckshot) but not much use otherwise.

Even then, with little relative diameter, they're only good if a lot of pellets hit the same target.

the myth of how powerful shotguns are against armor is BS you dont get thrown around and your insides dont magiacally turn to liquid. armor works because if disperces the energy over a wide area and stops the round through fine fibers or hard ceramics. shotguns arent magic doom sticks. shotguns in arma would only be useful if they added lockable doors and breaching rounds.
i remember watching a documentry about the shootout that happened back in 1997. the criminals made their own body armour and a policeman blasted one with a shotgun and he didnt evan flinch

im pretty sure the military use 00 buckshot not sure out powerful it is compared to normal buckshot but you clearly know more than me. and also the FIA is with all 3 faction and they dont have body armour and im pretty sure the US army use shotguns for counter insurgancy

mate if its a slug from close range you are finished because body armour isnt some magical being either! it dosent protect you from everything and the CSAT full body suits only provide a mediocre amount of protection to the whole body.

i think it really depends on the shell type and calibre. if the body armour is a special carrier rig and the shell is a 10 gauge slug at close range good night sweet prince, if its a .410 that would be equilevent to trying to smash a brick wall with your knackers

CSAT armor is only rated for explosives. im talking real level 3 hard armor.(which is pretty standard for militaries around the world) a slug wont pen it from close range slugs are just large diameter low velocity lead balls they dont penetrate armor well.

If Arma had more complex interior spaces, shotguns would be very useful for very close quarters tactical work as they are in SWAT 4, but their advantages are completely shattered by even low-level body armor like the full-body kit CSAT uses. Even just that stuff will stop slugs and buckshot cold.
really so the vest that the FIA or gendamire use would stop a 12 gauge slug at close range? a 12 gauge slug would go through that like sh*t through a goose

the vests they use (in real life) arent armored. the game doesnt do armor in any realistic sense.

level 3 body armour is used a lot by the military yes but that dosent protect you from everything. it would stop a subsonic 5.45 round without a problem but a 12 gauge slug at a distance lets say 8m (because the sinario is in a house) the slug still has a lot of power behind it. if it dosent work just use dragons breath

Firstly yes it will stop a 12 guage MASS doesnt equal Penetration. and dragons breath.... LOL you mean the shell that shoots flame to scare off birds from military airfields. Dragons breath doesnt shoot any noteable projectile.
this is actual dragons breath shooting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTZ657-uonY

Jesus people, read any body armor standard. GOST 50774-95 for instance actually ranks shotgun slugs below 5.45x39mm 7N6. Slugs are slow, 5.45x39mm is fast. Velocity beats soft armor, not energy.

CSAT's soft armor is also perfectly capable of stopping a shotgun slug cold. Armor is in fact very useful, especially against energy.

im pretty sure 5.45mm is subsonic

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.45%C3%9739mm. Read it. The speed of sound is 343m/s.
