Arma 3

Can you make Arma 3 use all 8 cores?
I'm planning on buying a Ryzen 7 1800X when they launch there second generation. I was wondering is there any way to make Arma 3 use all 8 cores and 16 threads on the processor?

Arma 3 is multithreaded, albeit not as well as it ought to be. You can set the game to use all your cores through the relevant options in the Launcher. Be warned, that Ryzen will not be used to its full potential.

Will this processor be a bottleneck considering most games are optimized for Intel processors? I'm planning on having AI battles made with the map editor. I have a GTX 1060 6GB as well. I'm going to over clock the Ryzen and GTX 1060 6GB GPU

AMD Processors have lower Instructions-Per-Clock compared to Intel processors, meaning that your overclocking will get you significantly less frames than if you had a K-type Intel I5 or I7. The AI demands strong core performance, so the CPU may hold you back if you plan on running with a lot of AI.

Does enabling Arma 3 to use all the cores on a Ryzen 7 1800X eliminate that gap or at least help?

It will help, but it won't give you any massive gains. This game is, frankly, not very well optimized especially in the CPU utilization department.

Hopefully, if they ever make Arma 4, it'll use a different engine that can utilize CPU's better.

Enfusion, the likely new engine, is supposedly far and away superior in that department.

How is the performance on a Ryzen 7 1800X for this game?

Here's a benchmark with it compared against other CPUs.

Thank you. I wonder if he benchmarked this on the 32 bit or the 64 bit version. I heard the 64 bit version improves performance a lot.

arma 3 will never use 8 cores. 4 at most. some say it uses only 2.
regardless of settings
