Arma 3
Helicopter Pilots Survey How do you Fly?
No jets. Just Helicopter pilots

How do you fly?

Keyboard and Mouse?

XBOX Controller?

Racing Wheel?

Flight Stick?

Throttle and pedals?

Steam Controller?

Other?

If you play King of The Hill and are a helicopter pilot, please share what you use and how long it took you to get used to using it.

If you are using a controller, specialized flight stick or anything aside from a standard keybaord, please add a link if possible.

Not interested in Jets, as I have no interest to fly them. Thanks all.

As a licensed pilot, I feel most comfortable with a stick and pedals, which is also how I fly my real open cockpit plane. It never felt intuitive using a mouse as a replacement. I have become quite competent with the Standard Flight model, especially with my favorite, the Little Bird (Hummingbird). Standard is actually more fun and relaxing than the advanced model - if not quite as "macho.". The one quirky thing in Standard is the collective (throttle) control. It actually is best suited to using two buttons on my CH combat stick instead of a throttle. Simple, rapid button pushes give a remarkably controllable throttle response, negating the need for a separate throttle. I have actually modded my Combat Stick with a throttle control, but I find the two button method to be much easier, as it leaves my other hand free for keyboard use, and with the Standard model, gives me very fine grained control. If I eventually try to use the advanced mode, I would probably change to the throttle stick instead.

HOTAS, Pedals, and TrackIR5. It is what works best for me.

I'm not a good pilot and cant land at all, but the 1st flight was with mb and mouse, the last was with logitech 3dx pro, collective annalog not configured. WHich of the 2 looks better?

I have more experience with kb but the 3dx i feel allows me more control. Not sure yet.

Keyboard and mouse, LogitechG600 mouse which is basically for RPGs and stuff like LoL and WoW which I have never played has plenty of buttons, two of which i use for yaw. I use mouse mainly for flight but for fine tuning or turning in a tight circle I will use arrow keys as well.

Hello,

I use Trustmasters Hotas Warthog joystick and dual throttle.
You can find them here! [www.amazon.com]

Currently i use a set of pedals as well.
Here is the link! [www.amazon.com]

Also trackIR5 from Naturalpoint. I love these when i fly and could never fly without them any more.

3 years back in time i switched to AFM to have more to do when flying. and damn i love it. I fly with AFM on king of the hill as well. The only thing disabled is hard landings.

I fly with Keyboard and mouse, since both are old or pretty cheap, not worth looking for links to those.

Since I did this always in every game, it took little time, to get used to it in Arma 3, somehow it is even the easiest and most intuitive for me in Arma.

Sure, the flight is probably a little less fluent than if taken with a joystick, but I also never tried to actually compete with AH 9 Pawnee Pilots with their crazy ass agile maneuvers, I guess most of them use a joystick.
I guess I could replicate these maneuvers with the keyboard, but it would be a lot harder.

But doing combat landings, auto rotation landings etc. is rather easy with the keyboard and mouse.
But I'm too friendly as a pilot, I always listen and most of my passengers want to be dropped via parachute...

I use keyboard and mouse and manage most combat landings or consistently flying 20ft above ground but for combat there's a big disadvantage compared to joysticks. Since you can only push 3 buttons at a time on your keyboard it's pretty much impossible to do sharp turns without losing or gaining some height. I.e. if I wanna fly a hard left turn I push A,S and Q but I can't push y or shift to increase or decrease the throttle while i'm in a curve which is kinda annoying.

My mi24 always goes i 200kph and I always miss rockets because of it. RIP

Thanks for the playlist. I actually have 2 of those, 1 XBOX 360 controller and 1 steam controller. As well as a gaming kb and mouse. Just trying to see what the majority of pilots use, but Ill watch that playlist, thanks
