If you're looking for an assault rifle with the highest stopping power/penetration, what would you choose?
If you want pure stopping power, the ASP-1 KIR is one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and can easily punch through armour in just a few shots, but it has an incredibly heavy and slow projectile, meaning the round drops like a brick. In real life the rifles is are based off are used to punch through thin walls or body armour in extreme urban combat. It’s honestly useless past maybe 2-300M so not much of an all-rounder.
The 7.62 NATO rifles might be worth noting as well- they have slightly more power than the 7.62x39 AKM /AK-12 but trade in heavier ammo and small magazines, as well as higher recoil. In Arma most of the time you should use semi-automatic modes, to keep accuracy up, but with a rifle and good recoil control you can keep a semi-auto rifle effective even at rates of fire of 1-4 rounds per second, which is about the best you can accurately fire, which sometimes trumps a less controlled full-auto user.
I like the SIG /MK1 EMR myself, but the SPAR-17 (HK417A5) , Mk14 (M14), Mk18 (M14 EBR) are all good choices. The Rahim (SVU-121) in my opinion is the worst 7.62 rifle, as it’s very compact and light weight, which is nice, but the small magazine compared to others is a drawback.
Don’t overlook the basic rifles either- the 6.5 Grendel MX and Katibas (KH2002), or even the ‘underpowered’ 5.56 rifles like the SPAR (HK416), TRG and Mk20 can be useful against targets like FIA and insurgents who die from a few shots anyway- the TAR-21 (TRG) or Mk20 (FN F2000) are awesome as close range carbines used like a SMG, as they has greater power than the SMG’s but is still compact and controllable on auto, and the MX has superior iron sights and a slight accuracy improvement compared to the slightly higher ROF of the Katiba. While the 5.56 can reach out to decent distances, the damage drop off means you won’t be sniping one-shot kills with it, despite being able to hit at longer ranges with a nice optic.

You'll notice 9.3x64mm has 18 hit and 2.2 caliber. It has somewhat over twice the potential penetration of 6.5x39mm while dealing a lot more damage. While felt recoil is higher, the extra punch is best-in-class and allows you to deal with even the Carrier Special with ease.
Actually, not true. 9.3x64mm and .338 Lapua have a much easier time penetrating held guns and launchers thanks to their higher "caliber" value in the config. Bohemia's own values are 50% of realistic ones for "balance", but the medium bore rifles like the MAR-10 and Cyrus offer much more insurance against game bugs, body armor, and other sorts.
Look, I'd rather down a guy in one well-placed shot than have to hit him five times over with a 6.5. The Cyrus is fundamentally a superior weapon for a solo player if his skills can match the requirements of a high-recoil high-damage high-weight rifle.
