The new lighting system in Arma3 is the single best improvement over Arma2.
Yeah it was really annoying but as far as arma 2 goes i was only referencing the colors, leaving the brightness issues aside.
Personally while I look back on old footage of the old lighting system I do like it. But I think the new one is more realistic and less cartoony.
The problem I have with it is they didn't really give suitable documentation about it. So all the 3rd party maps out there broke, and the map makers from my understanding were left high and dry and had to figure out how to make their maps look good again.
A perfect case in point is the Bamburg, UK map which was part of the 2017 mod. That map looked like it was going to be one of the greatest if not the greatest maps in teh ArmA 3 catalog but the lighting update broke the map, the devs couldn't fix it and it actually killed off the entire mod that looked so promising.
So in summary, I actually like the lighting but they should have offered more support for it.
