Almost 4 months later and I still cannot move past this mission, despite having watched countless videos to see how to do it and to ID the location of the spotters - regardless of drone vision mode they fail to appear half of the time when overflying their position, and the other half of the time the drone gets shot down as soon as it hit around 40 feet in the air.

I just did my half hour struggle and can't believe no body said THEY'RE A WHITE BLIP ON THE RADAR. FLY NORTH EAST AND SPIN TIL YOU FIND THE WHITE DOT IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT RADAR. anyways thanks guys

Couldn't get by this using the UAV. Couldn't see ♥♥♥♥ with the heat vision. Finally saw a guy posted on youtube that he ran up the hill a just shot the spotters. That worked!

I know this is incredibly late but I came here to try and get tips on how to complete the mission. I'm here to say for anyone who's also googling the problem

N+ N- are a huge help
Pressing N x2 like the others suggest also
Check your little radar for any dots. That's your target
Fly less to the top, they're more likely to spawn around the middle of the hill slopes

What the 'H'elp menu on the drone doesn't give you, is that in flight mode, you have 2 view modes, normal and night vision. But, in targeting mode, you have 4 view modes, Normal, Night Vision, IR White Hot, and IR Black Hot.

As Bob of Mage wrote above, get the UAV up to some good height then turn on hover with 'X' and then switch to the targeting camera (mouse scroll and select from the menu). Then Press N twice. First press moves from normal camera to night vision, 2nd 'N' will switch to Thermal (Infra Red White Hot) mode. Now scan around you and try spot some white spots that don't belong. Note the heading, move your drone a bit closer and switch back to targeting and recheck. You should get the hang of it with a few tests. Call in on the job training :-)

When you find the guys, hover over them but not too low that you get the drone shot down, and then laze them (mouse clicks) and this will call in fire support which should wipe them out.

I'm sure that this comment a year later might find you've done it already, but this comment mainly for those who Google the mission and have the same question as you guys.

You can find them by looking on the map and seeing a circle with a question mark on it

Worst mission ever, despite the help, I still can't find them, been hovering over the stupid question mark for over 2 hours there's nothing there

My tip: don't use the drone.

You should be able to see them in your binoculars, and then snipe one of them. That stops the mortar. Then you need to hunt the second one in the forest.

Mine were around 022-029 on the map.
