Arma 3

Is port forwarding safe?
I really want to open up the ports to the arma 3 server but when I actually looked into it a bit more I became more and more unsure about if I should since it seems pretty unsafe from what I've read. I was just wonderung: is port forwarding to the arma 3 servers safe?

its 50/50 it not always bad u can do it with out anything happing most of the time most people on my friends list do it nothing happed and a hacker is not just gonna go around and hack that kinda stuff they dont get anything out of it and its cheaper so people 80% of the time will not spend money on arma so they just port forwarding a army sever is like 20$ and up every month so yeah

If your router is capable of, consider using port triggering. Is the same as port forwarding, just that your PC has to open the connection first instead beeing open the whole time with port forwarding.

And when your PC opens the port first, then the port is blocked to be used by someone else. The port closes then when your PC stops using the port.

DO NOT HOST PUBLIC SERVERS ON YOUR LOCAL MACHINE. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE DDOSED AND HAVE UR CABLE FUC KED

You will not most likely be DDOS'ed. A lot of DNS and ISPs offer DDOS protection. Even routers have DDOS protection and they will request new dynamic IP from your ISP in case of an attack. I mean theoretically its possible to be hacked because of port forwarding but why would anyone specifically put that much time into hacking your server. I mean as long you keep at least your windows firewall or something equivalent up you will be fine. I have been hosting for years and not have run into an issue or heard of anyone having issues.
If you are just going to be hosting private games with friends, you will totally be fine. If something more than that then you would just be better off renting a server anyways.

I agree. Unless you have a dedicated server sitting around its best to rent one.

I have port forwarded and hosted games for friends for years. I've even hosted public servers for short periods of time. As long as your carful and not posting your IP on 4chan so that people will join your server, you'll be fine.
