As an example, you could set P1I2's quantity to 20 so that they keep a stock of items for their own use. Then you could set P2I1's quantity to 20 as well, and the game would start sending P1I2's surplus there through P1I1. If you pay close attention, you might see that P1I1's ports will have items while they're in transit, but the inventory would still show a total of 0.
If you're using the old Shipping Lanes style of shipping, you can set up trade routes to do what you want with a bit of work. Check out the wiki [beforeweleave.fandom.com] for instructions.
So if I understood it correctly, I should add the research widgets to shipping with quantity set to 0 on all islands of all planets, except for the island where I want the research to end up?
And yes, I'm using the default new shipping system, which I find much better than the old one - except for this one detail, which could either be explained in the game better, or I missed it when the game tried to beat it into me. :)
Yes, exactly that. You can set the research island to infinite, but I prefer to set a quantity so that shipping space isn't clogged with stuff I don't need yet.
Have fun
