How do I increase this?

First, assuming you have repaired the shipwreck, find an island that has red tech deposits and colonise it.
Then, collect enough red tech to discover and unlock Shipping.
Once you have Shipping you may build a Shipyard and a Port on island 1 and transport red tech from that island to island 1 where it may be combined with blue and green tech to unlock even more of the tech tree.
Eventually, you will be able to repair the Spaceship wreck and you will be able to colonise a new world with even more possibilities to unlock more of the tech tree, including Spaceflight, which will enable you to produce spaceships of your own and the ability to colonise yet more planets and transport more tech (including more red tech and others) from those worlds back to planet 1.
And so on it goes... ;)
