when you say 'selected', do you mean you've selected a specific character in the side panel, i.e. that they have an XYZ node beneath them?
and when you say 'switching characters', do you mean between characters that have already been added to the scene, or switching a currently selected character out in order to replace them with another?
this isn't the first time i've heard of, or experienced functions working on one machine and not on another
have you upgraded from older versions of HFpatch, or did you do a clean install of the current version?
load up a new scene with X character, doesn't matter who, and - making sure they're highlighted in the right-hand pane - attempt to change the character using that function, just to rule out any potential workflow order issues
if you have any cards that don't have additional outfits baked into them, i'd try using one of those, because that could be a potential culprit
i only say that because none of my cards have additional outfits baked into them, i save totally different cards for those
out of curiosity, have you run the updater in KKmanager?
1.5 has a hotfix for a handful of odd issues, though i don't know the extent of what it covers
just for the sake of consistency i re-ran the test, effectively exchanging two characters within the same scene and it does appear to work, so i can at least conclude that the function does work as intended, but there is one factor i have overlooked and that is that my install was upgraded incrementally from v2.10 through v3.5
that said, i don't have any reason to believe that should make much difference; i'm leaning towards the hotfix at this point
i won't lie, i had to go to the github release changelogs to figure out what said plugin even was, obvious name asides
