The "rebrand" is more like a whole new company under the same parent company just like Illusion with a similar name and probably the same devs, but as a new legal entity. The original company (Illusion) which most likely is going to dissolve by August 18th, still probably owns the distribution rights to AA2, Koikatsu, HoneySelect and the other titles. That is unless IllGames (the new company) acquires these titles somehow and reaches a deal with the Steam management to put/keep the games on here.
Of course, I don't know anything about this behind the scenes, just my guess.

Illusion Lab twitter account (where they were publishing stuff for upcoming games) turned into Illgames account.
(Cards from KK or KKS are not supported currently).
Totally not the case with the new game.
Maybe Illusion felt like some of their games we're all branded to the same demographic and being too similar so that fans would only try one game. Japanese companies have a huge issue with piracy and modding of original content.
It could just be that they don't want their unfinished game on Steam for a western audience because that western audience mods their game.
Possibly to get rid of debts or for tax evasion (as Illgames officially is totally new company).
Totally not the case, their new upcoming game got english translation out of the box, which never happened before (so they totally gonna sell it on Steam or some other western distribution platform).
Their new game is as samey as all their usual ones, basically Honey Select with Koikatsu's visual style.
In all honesty though, ILLGAMES' logo looks a bit blander than Illusion's does.
Most likely.
But still, having official english localization so early is something new.
it's more than likely the result of negotiations with whatever body has invested in them, or (less generously) acquired them
i should imagine that due to illusion's tanking valuation, they wouldn't have leased former illusion IPs, not only to lower the cost of the buyout, but also to mitigate negative association with former illusion properties - you know the one
you are aware that the east is also responsible for their fair share of mod development and consumption, right?
they're not surreptitious about it either; pixiv is rife with mods, and by that i don't mean character cards
Not entirely correct. The company Illusion is ceasing operation. Their parent company never was. This will be a new company. The question is whether its under the original parent company or another one.
FYI, I used to work for a Japanese company that did a similar move. Shutting down the previous company and relaunching as a new company with a new name when the owner changed. Too bad that second iteration of the company then went bankrupt due to mismanagement from the new owner.
I would very much doubt any Steam release at all. Too much work ultimately for too little return. Most people who want the game are too happy to use the pirate patches and machine translation to make an official Steam release worth the time, especially when everyone complains about the (cheaper) Steam pricing still being too high.
