Anticleric has always bitten off a bit more than he could chew. Or rather, his ambition exceeds his resources. It was the case for his cyberpunk "game" years ago, and I'm getting the same vibes here. I've played a few versions of Lo-Fi since the betas have been out, and I was never as immersed or convinced as I was in Aircar. He's a guy who throws a bunch of assets together ("kitbashing" as it were) but the whole is never polished or cohesive. The worlds feel empty and don't have much detail. Hopefully I'm wrong by the time the final product comes out.

In AirCar all you do is fly around in the same vehicle picking up canisters to increase your boost time (maximum of 10) after that there's nothing left to do but just fly around.

In Lo-Fi you can explore the world when you get out of your Police Spinner, there's going to be detective work to solve crimes, it's already progressed enough to the point there's some actual gameplay. Heck there's even an arcade that lets you play actual classic arcade games because it has a built-in emulator and you can add more games to it.

Even at this stage there's more to do than there is in Aircar, bottom line. And I'm not knocking Aircar, it's a great first-time experience if you want to jump into something more intense than a VR gallery shooter. But after about an hour or so AirCar's experience is over. For people looking for more to do there's Lo-Fi.

In AirCar all you do ....

I really do not understand what is the point of comparing, a five-year-old, small free vr game from the time of rolercoasters, to the full paid game which is not yet basically there.

By the way, I'm not saying it's impossible, but to make a big good game yourself, it's certainly not easy.

I am obviously a huge fan of aircar, and I am grateful that its creator made it available for free.

edit:
I would like to add.
That I do not mind supporting the author, by buying the game at the stage of production.
This is a very good idea if you believe in it, and especially as you are grateful for the opportunity to play Aircar for free.
I keep my fingers crossed for this project.

Hey to each their own! Just in my opinion, from what I've played of Lo-Fi, the experience is sill very unpolished and janky. The world feels sterile and like it was the result of someone throwing together a bunch of free assets or assets from paid bundles that were then re-purposed into a cyberpunk game. Then the lighting was made very dark to hide the fact that assets were just mushed into each other. The gameplay is rudimentary and janky as well. Maybe, as someone with UE4 and Unity experience building for VR, I am able to focus too much on the seams and little mis-steps and shortcuts that I can recognize. People without development experience are probable able to immerse themselves more readily in it. I can recognize all the shortcuts because they're things I'm hypersensitive to not do as a solo developer. Meanwhile in Aircar, everything is done so solidly that I can feel immersed. The assets look like they were made to go together, or match enough to present a unified art style. Lo-Fi comes across as hacked-together by 1 man with ambition that exceeds ability. But if that's not anyone else's impression, then I won't poke holes in what I see, again I'm just extra attuned to this stuff :)

yeah and Lo-Fi's environments are unpolished, sparsely detailed, and not really immersive.

Lo-Fi's world is bigger and therefore requires more work. Aircar is a Tech Demo and doesn't have any story or world building or any interaction outside flying a Air car. It's okay if you don't like Lo-Fi but you don't need to lie about it. And "Kitbashing" isn't what you think it is, actually look up a few videos about kitbashing software if you really want to know what it means.

You're starting to sound like an 11 year old who's mad that his favorite Free VR game is being surpassed by projects that are much bigger in scope.

I never meant to make it out that Lo-Fi was better than AirCar just that if you're looking for more Cyberpunk-style games with flyable cars then you should check out Lo-Fi as well and you all came in acting like I was attacking AirCar even though what I said about AirCar is 100% true. Nothing I said about AirCar is a lie. The Gameplay is what I said it is. You fly around in an AirCar picking up canisters to boots your Turbo Speed and that's it. And pretty graphics don't make a good game, a game can be as pretty as the engine allows but without interesting gameplay it's just a pretty picture show. A pretty demo with well-polished graphics is just that.

Unsubscribing from this discussion because I'm tired reading ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when I have better things to do today.
