Xbox controller not recognized by the game

Ok I tried everything: start game in big picture, pushing start button on gamepad when propted to press any key but the game force my controls only with keyboard+mouse I can't tell the game to use the controller even if when I press (A) the game reads it correctly but direction to scroll the menus and in game controls doesn't work.
Original microsoft xbox wired controller.

This is the FIRST time the controller isn't recognized and cannot be used.

Wait, no, not exactly the same. The tattiebogle website is outdated, but if you google "360Controller" the first github hit will bring you to something that I thought was the same, but updated more often. Works like a charm.

My issue is that when I do select the gamepad controller, it says the gamepad is not detected.

I loaded up my game today, haven't played it in a long time and had the same problem as you. Set about trying to diagnose the issue, after about 10 minutes I noticed in the options menu under controls, if you look to the left of the configurable controls there is a square showing the WSAD keys. Beneath that are (at least on my screen) two seriously faded boxes, if you click the one at the bottom, it'll show a controller, from this point on you can do everything with the xbox pad.

Wasn't immediately obvious to me, figure it may not be immediately obvious to others, anyhow, hope this helps!

I want to say this works. I went to play the game with my Xbox One controller and it was not working. I tested it with other games and it was. I googled, found this post. I went to the options menu, controls, and clicked the controller on the left then my controller started working. Thanks!

To those note able to use their controllers, im using xbox controller and using it 100% on the game no plugins.

Under Controls, there is 3 tabs for controls, one is keyboard(default), 2nd is Mouse only(grayed out mouse) on the left side of the controls menu, and 3rd is the controller(some controller icon and grayed out as well) its on the left side as well.

if your gamepad tab says that the controller is not detected (like in my case) you could try the following:
switch to the big picture mode
go to settings -> controller settings
enable "Xbox Configuration Support" and "Generic configuration Support"

Restart the bastion and then check the controller tab again under Controls

that was my case scenario. Updated controller settings in Steam
