Two kids - coincidence? I don't think so.
Just a random thought as I'm reading through Blood Meridian (by C. McCarthy) and it's cool how both The kid from Bastion and the one from Blood Meridian are only known as "the kid" and we never get to know their real names. I wonder if Blood Meridian served as one of the inspirations for Bastion, given it's got this western feel to it. Or if it's just a coincidence.

the whole deal with just calling something what it is and not giving a name is not to rare. there alot of storys and games that use names such as The Ranger The boy The lady. I assure you there is more than 2 storys with the name "The Kid".

You do realize Blood Meridian is not just ANY story, right? Oh of course you don't ;)

Blood Meridian is considered to be one of the most important American novels, post-modern masterpiece and arguably the most influential western book ever written.

Given Bastion's "western" feel and storytelling, it seems like there is a tie-in. Especially as both protagonists are silent (well, the Kid from BM is not exactly silent, but we never get to know him, understand his motivations or uncover his thoughts.). We never feel directly linked to either of the Kids. In Bastion and Blood Meridian, the only liaison between the reader and the protagonist is the narrator.

Another thing: their backgrounds are somewhat similar - both had tough childhoods, left on their own. Both are thrown into a world of decay where violence is their only resort. Still, while the Kid in Blood Meridian seems completely amoral from the get go, the Kid in Bastion is actually a decent sort.

SO YEAH, maybe I am overthinking stuff! Sue me!

The kid in the movie "The Kid" has a name. It's John. The whole point I am trying to make is that those characters are nameless.

/sigh

Now I'm to the point that ff I could sue you for overthinking a topic, I would.

There are lots of nameless characters, and lots of different characters named The Kid. There's no reason that any two of them have to be connected.

I found this post after having the same question/assumption when reading the book for the first time last night. Hilarious how the other commenters denied the possibility!

Lmao. Why was the other guy in such denial over the novel not having anything to do with the game? Don’t make sense. I myself am actually in the process of listening to the audiobook. I went into the book blind, only really knowing of, “The Judge”, from what I scrolled through and gathered up from the comment section of a YouTube video. The ♥♥♥♥ people were saying about the book got me interested enough to check it out. When I got to the part where, “The Kid”, is first introduced, and started hearing more and more about him, I began to wonder if the book could have maybe been an inspiration for the game, Bastion. Sure enough, thanks to you. I have the answer to the question now. Tight.
