Black screen

I bought this game quite awhile ago and never got around to playing it. Recently I've had the time and the urge to finally play it and ....it won't open. I can hear the opening music but I'm stuck looking at a black screen. I can hear noises when I click my mouse but other than that, nothing. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, sadly to no great effect.
Any one else experiencing this, or have any suggestions on what can be done about it?

figured it out go to properties and change it to legacy. Install whatever you need to. It should run properly after that
