How do you use a controller with this game?

Got an xbox controller connected via usb. A and B buttons are working but can't do anything else.

Don't see any controller option in the game menu either.

Tried both forced enabled and forced disabled in steam, doesn't seem to matter.

Not related to this game per se, but I'm getting really sick of all these controller issues. Seems you have to be a rocket engineer to get that damn thing working and it's different for every game. Is it steam or windows in general or xbox related (bad drivers or what not)? Are playstation controllers bettter supported maybe?

I didn't have anything special to do; it just worked.

Are you sure you don't have any "helpers" installed that mess with your controller? Did you disable controller support in Steam?

Did set it to forced off in steam's settings for this game.
Now, I've disabled it in the steam config and restarted steam but it still doesn't work.

It's not just this game. In some it works, in others it doesn't or behaves very wacky. Didn't install any drivers cause there are none that work for windows 7. It should be a simple direct x legacy device as detected by windows default installation.

Hmm, maybe I should have mentioned I'm still running windows 7? Yeah, I know.. it's old... :)

This game doesn't seem to recognize controllers properly when the game is launched before the controller is turned on. Some small/old indie games are like that. At least I had to remember turn my xbox360 controller on before launching the game, otherwise it would have not worked in the main menu.

This game does support controllers. It says so on the page itself. All you have to do is when you first open the game, click on settings/controls > controls > and then on the left hand side of the menu, there will be three options - keyboard, PC, and controller. Click on the controller icon and voila.You can plug in the controller at any time, not just before the game is launched. The controller icon will be shadowed until a controller is plugged in. I have a screenshot of what it looked like but I'm not sure how to include a photo in this.

Oh wow! I feel so stupid now... That option was grayed out the first time I tried and after changing settings in steam itself. A and B buttons worked in menu so I assumed the game picked it up automatically. Never bothered checking that menu again after trying out everything else. Seems A and B working doesn't mean it's actually using the controller?? weird, but learned something new today I guess
