So generally, killing a specific person or harming the demon hunters is a terror event. Anything mentioning items or gaining power in general is relics(some times gaining power might be a skill I think but usually relics). Killing groups of people or anything that is effecting a large group of people is probably souls. You just have to try to guess from the context of the scene.

If it mentions mundane items it's probably skills (often common skills, irrespective of your Terror level), whereas if it specifically mentions relics then it'll give you a relic (unless it's one of the ones mentioning holy relics and you doing something other than taking them since obviously you can't).
When it says gaining power that's generally skills and extra positive traits for the disciple performing the event.

Also, instances where you make a pact with someone and devour their soul will give you essence.
Good summary, you can also go by the difficulty of a skill check. I haven't received a relic from anything less than a hard skill check so far, but it doesn't guarantee one. There's probably some exceptions.

A lot of skill checks generate terror and positive reactions. I've also had negative reactions from a skill check success but it's very rare, maybe less than 1/15 and possibly because I had most positive traits at the time since it was at the end of a run.

So we have:
a) mention of a relic or crafting an item - likely a relic, with a hard skill check (as mentioned, Devil can't make use of holy relics)
b) mention of terror - usually terror and/or souls
c) mention of killing people or collecting souls - should be souls
d) devouring a specific person's soul - diabolic essence
e) mundane item - a skill (common?)

For reference I usually end up getting terror and/or souls from easier skill checks.

f) power for the disciple - a skill (usually wicked) and/or extra traits.
What don't they just include the reward in parentheses for each option? That seems much easier than having to leave the game to Google it.

Because they have put zero effort into anything user friendly whatsoever. They seem way too focused on making this punishingly difficult to appease tryhards, than actually making it an enjoyable experience

Or at least show the result of options you have picked in earlier runs so that from the beginning it's a mystery but as you succeed in the different options the game shows you the outcome in advance.

User friendly ? I agree that the game need some balancing but this is not true. Look at Binding of Isaac it gives no information about items. Why ? Because you are mean to learn what they do by yourseflf. It's the same, we need to figure out and learn what we can expect of each choice. Is it bad to ask to players to learn things ?

Its bad to ask players to remember each and every random event out of dosens and dosens of them. Not helping the fact that half of them look the same, do the same and use the same artworks.
