The campaign level-design/gameplay is clearly very retro, very uninspired, and the multiplayer is a mess--full of trolls, idiots, whiners, BSers, cheaters, glitchers and abusers; and that's not even mentioning the myriad of technical problems it has.
As I understand it, the game received a single patch before it was then abandoned by Rebellion forever. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence going into it; especially, when the game's focal point seems to have centered around multiplayer, instead of single player where it should always go, sans multiplayer clearly being the sole focus.
To be honest though, what really would another AVP achieve. If it turned out to miraculously incorporate enough interesting originality into it's dead-beaten carcass, and actually had enough variety and length in gameplay whilst being fun, playing well, and not looking like it got soaked in a pool of grime to warrant a 60, 80 dollar retail value then fine--I'd support that.
But with the modern gaming industry being the short-sighted, out of touch, "time and money" black hole that it is, how is pulling that off for a game/franchise like this even a minute possibility.

Sega and Rebbelion have somekind litigation about AvP from 2010 year, nobody hot have copy right untill litigation will over
This is the reason why avp not have any support form 2010 y, last update fix realiseds 2011 but make it 2010 years
We (players) wrote a petition to rebelion make update// bug fix but their aswer basicly was aour teams work on anoter projects and we cant do that but you can play our other games
Basiclt they sayed buy the other rebbelion games and forget avp
So I think all story about new avp is unrealistic !
