The game has dedicated server support so it's up to the community to keep the game alive.
I don't see it on Steam, only the original and the 2010 version.
Is this one of those cases where the rights to the product are up in the air?
There's none. Besides, you must have the disk to play it unless if you use the no-cd crack. Only "legit" way of getting it is through eBay, Amazon, or any other site that sells a hard copy.
I would say for story AVP2 is the best, AVP1 had no story, and the this AVP campaign while some fun to play its story is meh. For MP i would say this AVP is the best: each race is done quite well, its more or less balanced, and if you go to browse games and find dedicated internet servers, you normally find alteast 3 servers with population, it isnt much but its better then nothing.
