Gameplay, AvP2010 has less weaponry than AvP2 (minus xenos which have the same as before, more or less), but the weapons in AvP2010 feel better executed than in AvP2, first of all, melee is better, with full body awareness and smooth transitions in animations. Melee has some downsides, like blocking mechanics, but overall, it is an improvement over AvP2, imo.
AI is better in AvP2010 compared to AvP2, but the AI is still limited.
Graphics obviously better, though AvP2010 feels more small-scale, as it cycles through many same areas, which seem to signal how central to consoles they made fitting the environments, whereas in AvP2 I recall more variation and even larger environments, but still rendered horribly.
I agree about multiplayer though.
AVP2:
Marine Campaign: First time playing marine story is very scary. Predator sightings from start to end game, gives additional taste. Heads up fight with hunter killer Predator is awesome and there are some other story suprises.
Alien Campaign: You start as facehugger then chestburster then mighty Alien. There is no other game allow that. Do I need another word?
Predator Campaign: Pretty good story, fun weapons (disc, netgun, shoulder cannon), good hunting. Maybe if there was trophy kills like AVP2010, it would be more intriguing.
And best part of story Three protagonists paths cross. And they help each other without knowing.
AVP 2010:
All Campaigns: Nothing special. Like training for multiplayer. I do only surprised when I learned marine protagonist race.Trophy kills nice for sp bad for mp. Other than that there are only some "meh"moments.
And I do agree Nathan's sayings.
yeah, that eye flash from the Predator's opening kill in the Marine Campaign in "AvP 2" still creeps me out
Avp 3 is also lots of fun, i've put 600 hours in it.
Both games are a great fun so I can't decide which one is better, maybe Avp 2 because lots of modes and alien life cycle :)
So while 2010 focused more on the Predator ritual garbage from the movies, 2 delved into a multilayered tale involving character ties, the secrets of the planet, complications within the company and its operations, and cryptic/implied plot points fed through journals and reports; the latter made it quite intriguing.
Compared to 2010, AVP2 had--among other things--different Predator types that looked cool instead of the sh\tty-looking Predators in this one which only differed by mask; not every area during the day was tinted brown; they didn't bloom the f--ck out of the lighting; the inside of the POC and pods were actually interesting to look at, instead of 2010's generic brown industrial areas and generic grey chassis areas; the Queen doesn't look like a smoldering cigarette, and you fight her proper; it's got way more gameplay, weapons, and levels; it doesn't commit the cardinal sin of putting a tutorial in the opening stages (2010's Predator campaign has a tutorial level, and it still holds you up in the Jungle until you do a distraction); the music is much better; you get the idea.
I'm no AVP2 sycophant, but it's jarring to me how much it got right which AVP2010 didn't. The latter has better graphics, for what it's worth, but not much else. The NPCs behave less janky, I suppose.
-Almost alive, official multiplayer servers
-Decent, up to date graphics (Honestly, I don't care what people think. This game may be poorly optimised so it displays poor performances, but its graphics are more than acceptable, even by today's standards. It's a DX 11 worthy game.)
-Coupled with its two DLCs, it actually manages to have more multiplayer maps, also, those are bigger.
-Better interface/menus
-Immersive ambiance, that sometimes, AVP 2 lacks because of its cartoonish graphics.
-Steam successes.
-Easier to use, to learn, to play. Also, it is easier to invite friends to play with you thanks to the well thought interface.
-Still supported
-Melee attacks. I love those. At last, the marine can counter-attack !
Aliens vs Predator 2 (and its expansion) pros :
-Far better gameplay. That alien evolution thingy was incredible... You could play as anything, ranging from a Facehugger to an Alien Queen... As a marine, you also could use heavier weapons, and even drive an exosuit ! Some APCs were also helpful...
-Easily moddable. This game has many singleplayer and multiplayer mods you should put your hands on. Also, countless fan-made maps that make its amount of multiplayer areas eventually higher than AVP 2010's.
-A wwaaaayyyy better singleplayer campaign, no doubt about that. Not only is it longer, but its scenario is also richer, full of suspense. It also has a sequel (which is more like a "flashback" ... But still. Primal Hunt was a nice bonus.)
-An old school feel, which makes the very charm of the game.
-Cheaper to buy (lol)
...
I tried to sum up everything here.
I didn't play that game ( I had Commodore64 back then ) but it seems you're an old wolf like me ;)
However the mechanics of playing Alien/Predator single player is better in 2010. From a single player perspective leaping from tree to tree, then landing behind a Marine to do a gruesome execution move feels a lot more authentic. It's just freaking stupid in multiplayer.

ebay is probably your only other option at the moment.
multi-player wise, this i'm split on. and that's because while "AvP 2010" has a slightly more active community, the numerous glitchers/hacks/cheats tend to ruin the experience. However, I have heard many great things about the multiplayer experience on "AvP 2", just before the servers went down.
