a competitive event designed to honor the enduring legacy of the Alien franchise through skill, strategy, and discipline.

AVP 2010 Tournament: The Art of War - 2025
"The mind is the true weapon; the battlefield is just its arena."

Overview
Welcome to The Art of War — a competitive 1v1 Deathmatch tournament for Aliens vs Predator (2010). This tournament is designed to push players to their strategic limits, rewarding not just fast reflexes, but calculated decisions and adaptability.

There is no entry fee, no skill rank requirement, but level 0 Steam accounts are not allowed. Only one account per person may be registered.

DLC content is mandatory, as several maps in the tournament's pool are drawn from DLC releases.

Slots are limited to 11 players, and the tournament will begin only when all slots have been filled. Once that happens, a 1-week preparation notice will be issued to all participants.

As the creator and organizer of this tournament, I will personally oversee all aspects of its operation and ensure that every rule and procedure is properly enforced.

Registration Process
To register, players must message me directly on Steam. Once contacted, I will provide a brief overview of the rules, and the player must give verbal confirmation of understanding and agreement. This ensures all participants are fully aware of the expectations and format before competing.

Tournament Format
The tournament is structured as a 1v1 Deathmatch. Each player will face every other participant twice — once on a map of their own choosing and once on a map selected by their opponent. All matches are limited to a strict 20-minute time cap. Games will be hosted on exchanged player hosts.

Competitors may choose any of the three available species (Alien, Predator, or Marine) for each match. There are no limitations on species usage, which gives players full freedom to craft strategies around their strengths or to counter specific opponents.

Map selection is drawn from the following 10-map pool:

Pyramid, Refinery, Jungle, Ruins, Gateway, Temple, Docks, Crashsite, Outpost, and Furious.

Each player will participate in a total of 20 matches (two per opponent in an 11-player roster), and as part of the format, no map may be repeated by the same player. This means that across the course of the tournament, every participant must utilize each of the 10 maps in the pool exactly once, balancing their chosen maps accordingly.

Additional Tools for Participants:
Each participant will receive a personal Tournament Planner (Excel file), accompanied by a PDF instruction guide, to help them organize their map and species selections efficiently across the tournament.

This planner is designed to assist players in:
  • Strategically allocating their maps without repetition
  • Planning species choices
  • Tracking their match progress

An example of the planner layout:

Opponent Name
Map You Pick
Species You Play
Map Opponent Picks

Note: The "Maps Already Used" column tracks only your personal map picks — opponent map selections do not affect it.

The Tournament Planner (Excel file) and PDF Instructions Guide can be downloaded from our Steam group – Fury 161.

In this particular tournament, the ability to adapt and perform across a wide variety of environments will be a deciding factor. Mastery over multiple maps, rather than reliance on just a few, will distinguish the most versatile competitors. This aspect will play a crucial role in the event of a tie, as detailed in the Tie-Breakers section.

Game Rules
Species Selection
Players may pick any species (Alien, Marine, Predator) for any match, without restriction or limitation.

Alien Rules
  • E-grabbing is strictly prohibited.
Predator Rules
  • Weapons Restrictions: Plasma Caster and Proximity Mines are banned.
  • Mechanics: E-grabbing is prohibited.
  • Glitches: No usage of the tree glitch, any Smart Disc glitch (including rapid-fire), or thunder-heavy glitch.

Marine Rules
  • Forbidden Weapons: M42C Scoped Rifle and M59/B Smartgun.
  • Additionally, the use of grenades fired by the M41A/2 Pulse Rifle’s underbarrel launcher is strictly prohibited.

Global Rules
  • No hacking or third-party software of any kind is permitted.
  • The use of custom FOV (Field of View) adjustments is strictly forbidden.
  • The Camo Block mod is banned due to its unfair visibility advantage.
  • Any skin mods or other modifications must be approved by me before use.

Match Recording Protocol
To ensure fair play, all matches must be recorded in windowed mode, with the Task Manager and all running programs shown before and after the game.

Final scores will only be confirmed after video verification. If a rule break is detected (intentional or not — e.g., using a forbidden glitch to secure a kill), score corrections will be made accordingly.

Recordings must be submitted immediately after the match ends, fully published and without any form of editing. Attempting to hide or obscure a rule break will result in immediate disqualification, and all opponents will be granted a default 20-0 win against the offending player.

Videos must be in at least 720p resolution.

Match Scheduling
Players will have 7 days to complete each round of matches once scheduling is posted. Matches are to be coordinated by the players themselves through Steam. All scheduling must account for differing time zones.

When players agree on a time and date for a match, they must notify me, so that I can assign a referee to monitor the game. A tournament referee must be present for all official matches.

If the opponent is unresponsive, the player must provide proof of contact attempts (e.g., screenshots) in order to qualify for a default win.

Being more than 15 minutes late to the scheduled match without prior notice may result in a forfeit, pending review.

Score Submission
After each game, both players must:
  • Submit a screenshot of the final score.
  • Submit their video recording as outlined in the Match Recording section above.
Only after these materials are submitted and reviewed will match results be considered official.

Disconnection & Rematch Policy
Stable connections are critical for maintaining the integrity and flow of the tournament. This policy outlines the steps taken when a disconnection occurs, ensuring fair and consistent treatment for all participants.

Before 2 Minutes of Gameplay:
  • If a player disconnects within the first 2 minutes of the match, the game is restarted.
  • Players must return to the same map and retain the same species they initially chose.
After 2 Minutes of Gameplay:
  • If a player disconnects after 2 minutes, the match result will stand unless they provide clear evidence (recording) that the disconnect was caused by a technical fault and not user-side.
  • The disconnected player must submit their recording immediately for review.
  • If the disconnect is ruled avoidable or intentional, the match result will stand with no rematch granted.
  • If the disconnect is ruled legitimate, the match may be replayed with the same settings.
Frequent Disconnects:
  • Players with multiple disconnects in a short time span may be disqualified or penalized if it's deemed disruptive to tournament flow.
Abuse Prevention:
  • Any attempt to intentionally disconnect to avoid a loss or disrupt gameplay will result in forfeit of the match and possibly further penalties.

Skill Rating & Leaderboard System
This tournament features a custom Skill Rating (SR) system to determine rankings on the leaderboard. Rather than relying on simple win/loss tallies, this system evaluates each player’s performance based on kills, deaths, efficiency, and streak dominance.

Skill Rating Formula:

Skill Rating (SR) = (K ÷ (D + 1)) × (1 ÷ T¹) × 100 + B₍persecution₎

Where:
  • K = kills
  • D = deaths
  • T = time in minutes (20)
  • B₍persecution₎ = Bonus for Persecution Complex (5 points if the player achieves 5 consecutive kills against the same opponent)
This formula rewards kill efficiency while penalizing high death counts and long match durations. The B₍persecution₎ bonus adds an additional edge for domination streaks.

The leaderboard currently serves as a ranking mechanism within this tournament, but its role will expand in future events, influencing seeding and qualifications in later competitions.

Tie-Breakers
If two or more players are tied in Skill Rating, the following tie-breaker order will be used:
  1. Head-to-Head Result
  2. Global Map Coverage %
  3. K/D Ratio
  4. Most Wins

Global Map Coverage % – Explained
This tie-breaker rewards players who demonstrate versatility and strategic map mastery across the tournament’s full map pool. Rather than simply tallying wins, this metric reflects the player's overall win rate across all 10 maps.

It’s calculated as follows:

Global Map Coverage % = (Sum of Win Percentages across All Maps) ÷ 10

Each map's win percentage is calculated as:

(Number of Wins on That Map ÷ Number of Games Played on That Map) × 100

This system encourages well-rounded performance and strategic diversity, rather than relying on a few mastered maps.
