How does any of this suggest they are overpowered?
he's probably talking about the Shotgun's double-barrel blast from its alternate firing mode (which is pretty powerful nonetheless) one-shotting enemies after stunning them with a well-timed melee counter.
Maps that are open like Ruins, Gateway and Refinery give the marine clear shots yet also have plenty of places to avoid being seen. On the other hand maps like Jungle and Temple, marines are subject to sudden close quarter combat and xeno wall-tail attacks.
Marines get most of their power from what "game" or strategy the opponents allow the marine to employ. Cat & mouse, hide & seek; if the marine has control of the opponents movements the marine can easily win. For example when a marine is against an aggressive predator it is easier to wait for the pred to come to the marine while hiding around a corner. The marine has radar and can see the pred coming whereas the pred is restricted to sight only. Unforunately if a marine is caught out of position/safety or lacking the 'right weapon for the job' the marine has a problem (especially in lag causing delayed audio cues and animation).
All in all the marine is powerful if they are allowed to exploit the opposing species problems.
During my time playing marine success was driven on the momentum of the game. Whenever I killed an opponent I intuitively knew the general respawn location and which weapon to use knowing that terrain (scoped rifle, m4, shotgun, flamethrower)
That's kind of the whole point though.
Please don't misunderstand me I am not saying I'm suporior to everyone. Just saying if you skilled enough, you can kill them any more than they kill you ;)
Marine has the most less energy compared with other species, Shootgun is powered weapon only on close distance, sniper is ok but compare it with the predator, more energy, disc, spear (instant kill), e grabb, plasma, mines, heavy attack, light attack, focus attack etc.
Alien: a lot more energy, speed, wall tail, focus attack, heavy attack, light attack,E grabb
I just do not see how the marine is OP
So it all depends on the individual player Skil
As I said before depends of individual skill
When I play with pred not use plasma and grabb, with alien not use grabb and still can beat good marines
Of course sometime lose sometime vin...
Glitches and exploits are another thema
Predators are the strongest species, both with and without rules. They combine marines ability to attack at distance and they are more effective in melee than aliens. They have 150 health, when aliens have 130 and marines 100, making them the most tanky characters. To make matters worse, healing as predator is by far the easiest. Aliens have to wait, marine has to collect single stims, and he can have a maximum of 3 of them at a time. Predator has a maximum of 4, and after he runs dry on energy/healing all he has to do is to run up to recharging place to get another 4.
Some may say that aliens see through walls and marine has a motion detector, and predator is limited only to vision, but thats not true. If you take the disc you get a very long range wallhack, if you didnt know that already try looking at your crosshair while you're holding the disc.
In right hands predator equipped with disc can beat any marine and any alien.
Marine is popular in pro players, because he requires the most skill to use. Thats why you might think he's overpowered. If you think so, try using him yourself, and see how it fits you ;]
