Chatting in the Multiplayer Lobby?

Hi, ok so ive been able to play with a couple ppl in multi, and i know that (when in game) y=all chat and u=team chat. Knowing this, how does one chat in the lobby for the game. Pressing V allows you to use ur mic, but how do you type msgs? Ive tried every letter key on the keyboard, i tried enter, shift, even ctrl, but nothing worked. I havnt changed any keyboard configs for any class, so i dont understand whats wrong. Can som1 help me pls?

didnt try this...i feel stupid :P, hmm didnt work... do i have 2 press a certain key?

its usually the u key.
