Game launch stuck on "Updating Executable"

I wanted to revisit this game after a long while and got it. However, when I try to launch the game, the client hangs on a message saying "Updating Executable" for some time before just giving the option to launch the game again.

For the peoeple willing to help, my system way surpasses the recommended specs, I have tried disabling my antivirus, verifying file integrity, updated my drivers and reinstalled them, launched the game in all three launch options and yet the result stays the same. Someone please help me fix this or I'm going to give up and just refund the game.

Man, i found one but its not cool. Install the cracked version executable (prophet version), open the game and close it. Now open steam and run the game. Steam now can update files and then run the game

Hey guys, FYI this issue seems to be occurring for a few different games presently.

I created a Steam support ticket as I'm guessing there's a problem on their side, I doubt it's game-specific at this point:

So did I. Hopefully they get to it quickly. Do all of these games have a launcher and multiple .exes?

Someone in one of the other AVP Steam threads suggested it might be a failed DRM check on the Steam-side, I am starting to believe that they were correct.

I put an image on IMGUR below and shared this with Steam support, but I believe that there's a background task called "UpdatingDRM" that Steam is launching but is failing with an error code "10", for XCOM EU, Civ 5, AVP (2010) and likely other games, when you are a Windows 10/11 seeing the hanging "Updating executable":

p.s. I closed my 2K games ticket because the AVP game is published by SEGA, I no longer believe it's a 2K issue.

I have the same problem with the game Homefront. It seems that yes, the problem comes from Steam and only affects old games. I suppose that if we start reporting it massively they will review it.
I also have w10 and everything is updated. I hope it is not a problem with W10 or 11 either.

Idk why but it did't work yesterday. Now 1 day later i start it up and BAM! Now it works. Weird

I don't think they did, I just tried to play AVP, but It has the same error and doesnt boot.

same here for me as well, just says updating executable and then eventually crashes. following for any updates because this was one of my favorite games growing up on xbox 360 and wanted to revisit it
