FIX (Works for me so far)

So i see a lot of us are having the issue of either getting the game launching, or it crashing when you reach a specific point in the first missions of each campaign.

I found this link in another thread where people were saying it worked for them to get the crashing.

I downloaded the first option "Aliens vs Predator [2010] Update 4 to 6 [2.6 MB] Fixed Files" I then dragged everything inside the .zip into the games bin (where the .exes & steamapi.dll files are). It should verify that you want to replace three files, confirm you want to do so.

Viola.

After this I was able to proceed in the Alien campaign bast the last kill in the first mission (the armed test subject). I also tested the predator and was able to look at the third trainer without crashing and it would have let me proceed. Haven't tried the marine campaign yet. I will update if this issue or another comes up while I am playing.

I found it from your original post, thank you very much! I am hoping it works for everyone else as well. This 14 year old game suddenly has so many threads on this one issue.

It does work with the base game, but multiplayer is busted and even threw me out of the game... at least that's the issue I'm having now.

I did exactly like instructed but still multiplayer is busted for me. When I choose multiplayer, it says connecting, and then the game crashes. Am I really the only one with this issue, then?

Method 1: Change server type in-game
In the in game browser, set Server Type to Dedicated (Internet).

Method 2: Choose server from the Steam client
Open Steam, click on View > Servers.
Under Game, select Alien vs Predator.
Select the server to play in.

It is busted for me as well. Just finished the Alien campaign with no issues and tried to go to multiplayer. Also crashed when I get to the connecting screen. I tried using the steam server browser like Mia-aw recommended but I get to that same screen and crash. Not sure how to fix this.

Seems some steam update broke the game as well. For me everything fine, probably i will not get affected, since i play long time ago.

ehm the problem of updating executable is fixed for me now, so you should probably verify the integrity of the files of the game and then launch it normally
