Black screen with DX11, game freeze after a few seconds with DX9
I bought AVP2010 a few months back because it was one of my favorite games i had ever played back in the days of PS3, and i was feeling very nostalgic about this game. When i first started playing the game, it ran flawlessly, consistent 144 fps (i have a 144hz monitor), no stutters, no crashes, no issues at all. I finished the Marine story, and then i took a break from the game to finish some other games.
After updating my Nvidia graphics drivers to version 451.48 and updating my Windows to version 1909, i decided to start playing the game again and start the Predator campaign, however, the game showed a black screen, it crashed, and it showed a crash report on the game files which i cant read. I tried verifying the game files, using compatibility mode as many users and a Microsoft support employee suggested, but nothing worked, the game kept crashing. I had no other option but to play the DX9 version, which unfortunately doesnt have tensellation and detailed shadows, but i thought that would be better than not playing the game at all.
I start the game, im on the main menu, i launch the predator campaign, and the moment the game starts i realize that my framerates have dropped significantly (~70 fps) and after a few seconds the game froze. I checked the task manager to see why it ran so poorly, and i noticed that the app priority was set to low, which didnt allow the game to utilize the cpu properly. I tried changing the priority to normal, however every single time i alt+tabbed back to the game the priority kept resseting itself.
Ive seen plenty of people describe experiencing the same issues, so, my question is simple, has anyone who had these issues found a way to actually get the game working properly? I have an RTX 2080 TI graphics card, a Ryzen 7 2700x CPU, 16 GBs of Ram, and yeah, thats it, i dont know much else about PC Specs.

I just decided to start up this game again, after a kinda long wait of a few weeks/months.
I have hundreds of hours on record, all flawless under Direct X 11.

I also updated Nvidia drivers and Windows 10 lately, and now the game does not launch at all in DX11.
Under DX9 (which I NEVER used before) it runs fine.

Anyone else ?

Roll back to your previous version of windows before the update if your running Windows 10 you can do this in the update option via settings.

As long as your security is up to date i guess that update added a few options your system did not like ie wrong graphics driver.

Did you install avp using Windows 10 to do so or was it installed via your previous os that is if you did not fresh install Windows 10.

I have always played the game in full ultra, with everything maxed out.

I mean:
3440x1440 120Hz
I7 8770K overclocked
ASUS Maximus X formula
GTX 1080Ti overclocked
16 Gb RAM 3600Mhz
Full custom watercooling in the entire system

But what do you have set in your avp game settings via Video ?

It dont matter about your rig i just want to know your setting to compare as you could have them set wrong.

EDITED

My avp runs without probs

Windows 10 64 bit

16 gb ram

gtx 650 ti boost

AMD ATHLON 5150 APU with Radeon R3 4 LOGICAL PROS

500GB HD

6 FANS to me thats overkill i dont think i need water cooling for this game and my quad never leaves 30c.

I fail to see how anyone could have "set wrong" in-game settings at all.
Especially in my case, where they remained untouched for, literally, years, and always worked fine.

But since you ask...:
Tesselation
AA
Advanced shadows

All those were/still are maxed out, as previously stated.
I can't see or access the setting now, because i can only start the game under DX9

This just started happening for me as well when playing the story mode using DX11. I updated to the latest Nvidia driver and I am also on the latest Windows 10 2004 version (May update).

Game ran perfect before these updates.

Same here - DX11 causes hard crash withing 5 seconds of starting the actual game- i.e. reset PC to get it working again. Can't get Task Manager to work and Alt-F4 does nothing.

I suspect whatever they've fuxed is never going to get fixed now - not on a game this old.

Rig is up-to-date with latest Nvidia drivers and a GTX 1060 - so should be more than capable of running the DX11 version.

DX9 version doesn't crash quite as hard - it does bring up Task Manager on Ctrl-Alt-Del, but it doesn't give me the mouse cursor back, so it's pretty useless. Again - have to log out and back in again to get my PC back.

Whatever they've done to if has fuxed it HARD.

Can't get a refund, can't get it running - might as well delete it and pretend I don't own it.

Bloody marvellous.

I also had crash issues after moving from win7 to win10 (on the same hardware), but for me it happened in both dx9 and dx11. In my case, after much frustration, I found that uninstall and reinstall fixed it... worth a try for anyone who hasn't tried that yet.

(I think this is a different issue from crash-on-launch or crash-on-level-start though, because my game would run fine until you killed something, and THEN crash... maybe a corrupted file somewhere.)

I reinstalled this game years later and seeing the same issues as others. DX11 crashes on launch; I only ever see a black screen and the mouse cursor change before a message-less crash. There a bunch of MDMP files in the game directory, which I can't read. Launching on DX9 works fine. In the options menu when running on DX9 I click DX11 the game states "No DX11 compatible hardware found." I've verified game cache several times, tried compatibility mode, restart, but no luck.

Running latest version of Windows, Nvidia drivers as of today.

Edit: I fixed it! I set RivaTuner application detection to none and now the game works.
