What does harvesting humans as the alien actually do?

Wait but the aliens at the end are runners which are usually spawned from animals such as dogs, so how is it possible for s runner to be spawned from a human?

I don't know, maybe they wanted different types of Aliens.

Anybody know if there is a way to harvest marines? I don't think you can.
