Better Map Generator Options?
We got a lot of cool free updates over the time for TF2 and I really appreciate it. The one thing though, that I always wished for is a better, more extensive map generation tool. The one we have has very basic options of height and water distribution on the biome of your choosing. Example: If I want to play on a temperate map, I can only create rivers with some bloated areas representing lakes, at maximum. I can't really create larger lake systems, oceans with bays and coast line or river deltas etc. There are map script mods that can do this, like the Fantasia map generator, so clearly it is possible and supported by the game to generate such maps. Unfortunately, as far as I can see, the mod map scripts are all outdated by now and sometimes crash or do not support new content.

Why do we not get a better map generation tool from Urban Games, with more extensive and complex tool mechanics for shaping the map? I see this often coming up on the forums. Is there a specific reason why the devs do not provide a better map generation tool, if it is an important aspects for replay-ability?

Hi, no idea why it is, but work on TpF2 is finished so we have to wait to see what's in a future game / sequel.

With the game the way it is, nothing will compare to an imported / hand-created terrain. But FWIW I use this terrain generator mod and it works well, never had any crashing issues. It's great for mountains and more water variety.

If you want a realistic height map go to mapbox sign up and get api key it literally takes 2mins to do everything. Make sure you save your api key somewhere otherwise you wont be able to get the heightmap from this website....https://heightmap.skydark.pl/........there a tutorial from a good builder stephen spry and husky explain in great detail good luck hope this helps...

One fundamental problem is that water is defined to be always at 0 ft elevation.

That is, you can't follow a river upstream... and have your train struggle with the incline at the same time.

The next game needs the ability to create water at any elevation. Functional water where ships can travel, that is, not just a reflective texture where you pretend you can't lay rails.
