Stopping Vertical Growth of....
...towns. Is there a way to do this? and encourage horizontal growth? I find it absurd that a village of 200 ppl or even 1000 would have skyscrapers growing. I understand that most ppl are aiming to have that look about their towns but me personally...I would rather not have that. Its too unrealistic. Maybe after a few decades of horizontal growth and all the villages becoming one town could justify a few 10 storey buildings but otherwise...nah...not for me.

The number of people represented in the game can easily be multiplied by a hundred to get a real population estimate. No town is only a couple hundred meters wide too.... and you would never use airplanes to fly between 2 cities who are only 5 km appart from each other.

My real-world city of 200,000 does not have any skyscrapers, but my TF2 city of 200,000 (2,000 x 100) looks like downtown Manhattan. I don't think a factor of 100 is right.

Yes I understand that that I am supposed to imagine that 1 person is to represent 100 ppl in the game but I find it hard to wrap my head around this virtuality. I am simply asking if I can stop the vertical growth in the config so I can play the game I want to play....horizontal growth only

Not tried, but have thought about it myself.. I guess you could limit the growth of level 3/4 buildings, hmm... I might try it tonight.

I like urban sprawl as opposed to sky scrapers too. In my country sky scrapers are rare. I build one town that has demands and then satellite towns that are all set to zero demand so that they do not grow. It looks more "realistic".

It's all about scaling. So when you have a city of 2000 people it is a megapolis.
Heinekn Feb 13, 2020 @ 4:02am
Reality and scaling needs aside...I don't especially care for that skyscraper look either.

For me...the appearance of my map is as important as whether the trains are getting to where they are supposed to. I probably spend 75% of my time laying them out...and making them "pretty". It's all about layout...placement of assets...painting the scenery...and the like.

You know...just like most of us would do if one could afford to spend the THOUSANDS of dollars if our model trains were REAL model trains IRL, eh?

Anyway...skyscrapers showing up before city sprawl warrants them simply looks off.

Again scale is not right, a city would never be less than a km wide with 1 000 000 people living in it.

If I won the euromillions jackpot I could build my dream layout..... meantime this is the next best thing. Especially now so many of the games assets are now in a mod;mods to use freely in game to decorate and customise the heck out of eveything! :steamhappy:

Yes, I am finding this annoying. I really like the look of the first era largest buildings, because they seem appropriate for smaller towns in countries like Germany. Yet it's 1926 and they are upgrading to concrete monstrosities reminiscent of eastern Europe in 1970.

Based on this I may as well just completely give up on the in-game towns and plop down every building myself.

I've tried to go back to 1890, paused the time, and I still get era C skyscrapers. What the hell

Heh...you should see my train collection. Started in 1992 and am now close to 200 engines and about two thousand pces of rolling stock and passenger cars...all N Scale.Saving funds to finish building my mancave (20 feet x 20 feet) garage...shell is built, sided and roof shingled...next comes electrical and insulation then walls ceiling and floor. Of course all this takes time and money which comes in slowly as I am on a fixed pension and my part time job is seasonal.

TPF1 and this game have been my virtual model railroad for some time now. Hopefully I dont run out of time. Im 62 and not in the best of shape like when I was a much younger man.

I would love to see an era style that's in between the 19th-century low-rises and the concrete monoliths of the mid 20th century. Just give us an art-deco or tiered-scraper design that lasts between 1900 and 1950-ish.

I do not mind the skyscraper buildings so much. I agree that a balancing should be made by UG towards more low-/mid-rise buildings.

One thing however bothers me much more! Why was not much more love given to the building sets across the various biomes? Well in the late game, I think cities would not much be different going from Asia via Europe to the US. But in the early game, you get buildings in the US and Asia that look exactly like some place in Europe...

This is something I would EXPECT from a future update to be fixed.
