In combat you have one action per turn, if you do not roll a specific skill, look into using enhancements or items instead.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about rolling a specific skill. I'm just barely starting the game, but all I can see that you can do is either attack with your weapon, or cast a spell. Sometimes a shield action comes up and I can reduce incoming damage.
What do you mean by rolling a specific skill or not, please?
Let's say you have 15% Critical skill as seen on the Stats. Every round, you have a 15% chance to have the Attack button replaced by Critical Strike instead. In other RPGs, you have to pray that you get a critical, here you can make a decision about it.
The tip mentions that if you did not roll a special such as critical attack, it might be more beneficial to use an enhancement (they stack) or guard against a particular nasty spell or curse.
