Plus, this is the game's complaint departement. Brace for the negativity.
Sorry, couldn't resist
Be warned, if you want to take it slow and experience all the zones, don't rush main quest, it gives too much xp.
no surprise all your expertise is to complain a lot.
to op best tip if you are new.
New World is different than other games so you can develop other strategies to be successfull playing only that you really like.
Just rely on yourself you will fall and rise up as long as you like it better than other games you are fine with trial and error as the devs.
Devs make more mistakes.dont have a connection to this steam forum you are free to explore for yourself the greater flexibility how to play your personal style.
you should start with learning all weapons and decide later that will become your favorite pair.
ignore most of the feedback from persistant crybabies on this forum better watch some youtube videos excluding speedrun trash or exploit celebrations.
It was a joke. Sorry if that hurt your feelings.
His username kinda led into it.
That said, this game and the developers don't deserve any positivity atm.
My best advice to people is not buying or playing this unbalanced money grab.
Spend your time on other games that rewards time spent.
-"Buy the best axe you can only just afford"-
If you get into the crafting for any of the Armouring, Smelting, Woodworking, Engineering, or Furnishing, you will need a lot of wood. And I do mean A LOT of wood. It's no joke that some people call this game a wood chopping sim. But like me they are probably levelling all the crafting skills at the same time.
The best move I made to preserve my sanity was buying an axe at the Trading Post with "Yield" and "Gathering Alacrity". This increases the amount that you get from each tree and the speed you move between trees. As your skill increases so will your speed but with these two "Perks" on your axe it will reduce the amount of time you spend chopping trees and every little bit helps.
I've put this first as I only just realised my mistake a couple of days ago when I was still trying to chop trees with a "Green" axe I had made myself.
Anyway, If you are truly new to MMO's (as in, never having even looked at one before) then Welcome. I do hope you enjoy your time, and that this is the beginning of a long enjoyable hobby.
It's a big big world in any MMO and there will be a lot to learn so don't worry about trying to learn it all at once.
Here are a few tips to help you get started.
- Play at your own pace. If you want to get stuck into the game and get to Max level in a week, then that's fine you will find plenty of people who are into that, but if you want to play at a slower pace and take your time to explore the world then that's OK too. You do you. There are other players in the game but you don't have to do what they do.
- Don't worry too much about which class/Archetype you choose. In New World you are not locked into a class, you can use almost any weapon you find (Except Flail which is behind DLC).
- Follow the Main story Questline. It will introduce you to the main game mechanics.
- As you come across other settlements they will be added to your "Storage shed" roster. You can access all settlements from any "storage shed" and each settlement has a default 1000 storage. So if you spread the things you find, across all the settlements you unlock, you shouldn't have to worry about storage space.
- At around Level 17 you will get a quest to join a Faction (Green, Gold, or Purple). Upon completing this and joining a faction you can then join a "Company" which is a group of other players in the same faction.
- At around level 20 you will get a Quest that will allow you to get a Horse. Like eveything in an MMO it's a bit scuffed to start with, but as you level your riding skill it will get better.
- Here are a couple of websites I find useful
https://nwdb.info/ - is good database for ingame items
https://www.newworld-map.com/ - is an interactive map showing the entire
ingame map and where to find chests,
resources, enemies, points of interest.
https://www.icy-veins.com/new-world/ - is a good website for build guides to give
you an idea on where to start you build.
I hope this helps.
Get a refund and find a better MMO. Something more established and has stood the test of time, like FFXIV or SWTOR or even GW2.
There are simply too many badly designed systems here to be worth your time.
Read the forums. Yes there are a lot of complainers, so only read the ones who have specific critiques about specific mechanics in the game and you will understand why nothing is worth your time here.
I played during original launch. I came back for the Aeternum update and even finished the battle pass. And literally everything is still worse compared to the major long-running MMOs that have been around 10+ years.
I do not recommend this. The story starts out hokey and progresses to stupid.
