Appearantly GW2 is more active than New World + ESO combined
Obviously the title is /s but their community went into panic mode after losing the subreddit and reaching for straws and badmouth games that have 10 times more players to stay relevant:

I'm not a veteran, but been playing MMO games the last 8 years, since i was 12yr old.. i played ESO for 5 years, but did quit it 2 years ago, it just got bland and endgame lacks people (both pve and pvp, in pvp you fight only same few people) and after tried several games, landed on Final Fantasy 14 and got addicted to it and been playing over 1,5 years as my "main game", it has very active endgame pve groups and plenty of epic content steadily and the content is best of any mmo, from the combat mechanics to musics.(subscription model, so content often and most cool stuff gets from in game farming and not from crown store like in ESO).

But, with me gone through FF14 main story and all patches and all side content and all raids, still between content cycles i noticed might want another fun game on the side, especially with decent pvp (in FF14 it's more like a mini game, Crystal Conflict is a fun mode tho).

So went to test a few games and landed on GW2, and oh sweetness it's been fun. The overland is super fun and so is pvp/WvW.

+ It's actually LEGIT more active and see more players on a single town/map at 3am in the night even than on ESO during primetime. Yes, i went to check after Necrom launch.. it was sad amount of pop at ESO.

+ Combat is fun combo of active/tab target and modifying builds is cool and feels impactful enough, no need to own 300 sets like in ESO, where everything except 3 sets are nerfed into uselessness to have 1% of usable sets KEKW.

+ Can actually from just in game playing farm gold, that can then transfer to Gems, and buy from cash store that (imagine them doing this on ESO? Never. The Seals of endeavour takes 1 year to get anything, and by the time the thing you wanted was gone from store already lmao) So GW2 monetization model is great. Yes, i bought both Expansions. Gave lots of content. And yes, when i started i bought some Gems, just enough to buy Makeover kit and couple outfits and cute backpack glider wings. <3 But ever since i just gather gold and transfer to gems. So nice system! Wish other games had this.

+ With how active the game feels, even last night at 3am my time, means it was 4-5am in middle europe where most players are from i¨d assume based on usual mmo EU server graphs.. there was huge amount of people doing world boss events. Was fun. ^^

+ GW2 actually looks QUITE good for an mmo at 1440 resolution imo, character models look nice on max settings. Also, if you have decent gaming pc/laptop (i play a lot on my gaming laptop, runs perfectly) it has good performance, no lag. If really old gaming setup, then might needs to lower settings or have frame drops on big world events.

So i'd say with all this activity i see, i'd easily estimate the game to have 5-10 years more.

And tbh, buying the HoT and EoD expansion pack gives so much content to play, even just going through the story and during that casually playing with people you meet around the world, worth the buy and investment. Even tho i count myself as "FF14 main fangirl", i still love GW2, it has so much good in it. And weirdly, how little Anet seems to advertise, it still has seriously active player base. Was actually surprised.

Old engine with it's limitations, same is in FF14 that i play, FF14 can look a bit outdated for many also, it has 10yr+ old engine with limitations and it shows, but they been able to stretch it quite nicely on many things. And that game has already 10 year plan ahead. Literally. Was announced. Tho we might get engine upgrade at some point. With one of the biggest launches. So no reason why GW2 could not get the same. Might be the smarter move to actually upgrade GW2 engine instead (if it is possible to move player/item database to new engine) of making GW3 and dividing player base between the two.

All in all, i say GW2 is surprisingly good game, and worth the time investment imo. Has plenty of years ahead. It's actually lively and active. In ESO there was literally 5 people in Mournhold (capital of EP) after a major expansion (Necrom), at 3am last night on GW2 there were hundreds of people in Divinity's Reach (capital of catgirls, with cat ears and cat tail outfit i can turn human into catgirl smadgeCute) so i rest my case. I joined a guild even so am not solo anymore. 99% of the people in my guild seems to play with Anet client, not via Steam client, so never let the Steam charts fool you, it only shows steam client players, that are not many. I am one of them tho. :) Because took free trial first from here just to check and then got addicted and bought full version. :P

So to any new players or anyone wanting to try the game, just do it. Worth the time and for sure has many, many years of planned for it already. They would not spend expensive dev time on things like the WvW changes that are coming and so on, if they were thinking to switch soon to GW3 or something. There are always the same like 5 people here on forum telling the game is dying. Just check their post history lmao. And if they change name, check post history and see it's the same dude. :D I think they were nerfed enough times on ESO to cause them emotional damage, and now they spend all days on other games forums rather than playing their ESO.

Anyways, i wish all GW2 (and to my FF14 friends) players have awesome weekend, may you all have fun! :UDG_Heart:

Myself I've played too much GW2 in my life and now I'm looking for a different MMO. But looking how desperate people seem to be in these forums, jeez, I might pass on this one.
No one is desperate, only you peoples seems very desperate of that minecraft mmo trying to get attention to it in 2023 because is dead AF.
So keep stay relevant to that F2P game, where it seems that the NCsoft devs are worse than amazon ones since they didn't care enough even to enable the option to link old accounts to Steam in a time when social platforms are interconnected while they make tons of money from them lineage mobile games.
Obligatory "Guild Wars 2 has its own launcher so the steam charts are hardly reflective of the total player-base." I've never used steam to play GW2 since when the game came out, it wasn't even on Steam and I imagine thats where most current players started (or when it went free).

GW2 is a fantastic game, FF14 likes to claim to have the best MMO community but I just found it very cliquey compared to GW2. GW2 secretly has the best community afaic.
GW2 overall has easily 2-3x or higher active users compared to the population of NW Steam stats.

https://gw2efficiency.com/community/lottery

This page shows individual GW2 accounts who have voluntarily entered this month's gw2efficiency community contest by clicking "Enter me into the lottery!" after providing their unique API key from the official forum, which leaves one to believe those are players who currently play. That's just people who know of the lottery on that site, there's plenty of players who don't sign up for the lottery on gw2efficiency. so no... this game is definitely hurting for players compared to GW2.

Just checked Steam Charts, it says GW2 has 3.8k concurrent players, while New World has 12.8k.

I know, some people play gw2 without steam, but i'd guess they both have the same numbers.

EDIT: IMO, New World lost popularity because of lack of content, everything is repetitive and boring after end game. GW2's content is way more various, that's why it maintained popularity (kinda) 11 years later.
thats on steam most people dont play GW2 on steam , steam just recently got GW2

Adding to that:

" Do I have to create a new Guild Wars 2 account to play on Steam?

Yes, Steam is used to create a new Guild Wars 2 account. If you have an existing Guild Wars 2 account, it cannot be transferred to Steam. You will continue to play and manage your current Guild Wars 2 account as you always have.

If you want to play Guild Wars 2 on Steam, you will have to create a new account on Steam and start from the beginning. "

In other words, if you created and played GW2 BEFORE it came to Steam, you can't play it on Steam. That's not even an option.

So if one thinks that a game that's over 10 years old and only came to Steam last year and which you can only play on Steam if you have a new account reflects any user count... you do have a problem.

So it's quite safe to say that 90%+ of people who play GW2 are out of steam. Steam numbers only show people who have joined GW in the last year and that opted to download and create their accounts through steam.
OMEGALUL. Failed World players thinking this mediocre game has more players than GW2.

COPIUM.
WTF is with all this gw fanbois spamming the internet lately, you guys lost reddit hostel home?
I don't like guild wars 2. I reinstalled it two days ago, meh...I was lost.

but truth is that it does have a larger player base than ESO and New world put together. Its simply a better game with better combat.

Really matters little to me what you think of the data ..

Best argument you could make that it simply doesn't matter if the numbers are fake so long as it fits your agenda? It must have stung a little to be confronted with fact. :steambored:

Damn, why are you trying to destroy these RMT vendors and cheaters claims with facts. You dirty person you! Shame on you, kicking people who may lose their livelihoods anytime now.

On another note just log on to GW2 at around 3 A.M. I'm willing to bet money you'll be able to find group of random people to clear any content with you within 6 minutes. I'm willing to bet you be able to log into any WvW server and find a 200 player or more large scale fight in under 10 minutes.

Can you people say the same about New World? I have screenshots of me waiting for almost 2 hours at 2 A.M. for an OPR to pop. Only reason I didn't wait any longer was because I logged off to play GW2. And what did you know, in less than 10 minutes later, I was in a massive large PvP battle over Stonemist Castle. That battle lasted over 45 minutes.

What I speak of above is easily observable in both games. So please stop trying to insult peoples intelligence. Like people can't just verify the absurdity of you people claims.

gw2 released on steam only last year while whole online play on official website client, bigger only have only Final Fantasy or WoW
Dr0W eredeti hozzászólása:

So Steam count on GW2 is basically composed of people who only started playing GW2 after it was released on steam, like... less than 1 year ago? Anybody who ever played GW2 prior to its release on Steam will play it out of steam because, simply put, even who wants to have it linked to steam... can't. (like me)
steam only count online on steam. Most of players don't want to play on steam because you need to buy game and updates again . Steam online number doesn't have to do anything with real GW2 online number, same as with Final Fantasy, some people still doesn't know it

GW2 generally has 100k concurrent
its around 200-300k per day outside steam. Overall per month unique players around 1-2 mil, more than this only would have WoW or FF

As long there are no official numbers on the client & Steam is not so relevant bcs of the veterans that r still playing outside of it not because of them fault but bcs of devs fault which was not capable to link gw2 accounts with steam, everything else is a speculation same as Lost "bots" Ark population since release... no one knows & will nvr know the real PLAYER number even if listed on one single source. Also GW is a f2p so is normal to have a higher player count, and it doesn't require high specs like moderns mmo's. If a new GW on UE5 would be released which to cost 60$+ i doubt that all those GW lurker numbers will play it, maybe not even 10% of them.
GW2 is past.
I played it for over 3 years, was active commander in WvW for 1 year and id say GW2 way faster became boring than NW or ESO.
And dont forget ESO in 80% of time just dead, repetative toon leveling activity. 20% is when new chapter released + 1-2 months after that. + Cyro dead for a long time (because boring ball groups same as zergs in GW2 are not fun at all).
