I have the definitive formula to make "New World: Aeternum" the success it once was.
As we all know, New World has been a game whose development has faced numerous issues regarding the core design of MMOs and what they need to succeed. New World broke a record by dropping from 1,000,000 concurrent players to just 5,000—a failure of unimaginable proportions. If it weren’t for Amazon (a multi-billion-dollar company) backing the game, it would have shut down completely.

Now, the game has been relaunched under the name “Aeternum,” but let’s be honest: it’s heading down the same path it once did. What’s going wrong? Let me explain:

1. Matchmaking:
It’s 2024. People have much less free time than they did in the 2000s, and the little time they do have is spent playing quick, straightforward matches with minimal effort beyond pressing a button. This is why matchmaking should be implemented in every activity in New World: wars, sieges, M3s, raids—everything. Give players with less time the ability to try high-level content.

2. Mounts and Unique Rewards:
In MMOs, there’s a dedicated player demographic called “collectors.” These players can remain engaged with your game for years in pursuit of something truly special. In this case, there should be at least four very rare mounts (with a drop rate of 1–5%) obtainable through different game activities (e.g., Gorgon Raid, dungeons, PvP, elite chests). Additionally, mounts should be craftable through certain professions. For example, a stone/metal bear, a molten lion, or even a steel mount through blacksmithing/carpentry, etc.

3. New Zone:
I’m not saying it has to happen immediately, but Amazon, you need to tease a new island for the future. After the events of New World Vanilla, players would be eager to explore a new land in search of an ancient treasure capable of ending the endemic corruption. This island could feature new professions, small strongholds as personal housing, new raids, mechanics, a level cap increase to 65–100, and much more. Announce it. Show players that what’s coming is worth the wait.

4. Enhance the Housing System:
The current housing system appeals to players, but it needs to evolve along with other game mechanics. Allow players to design their homes, edit interior walls, and even purchase a small personal fortress in specific zones for, say, 200,000 gold. This fortress could allow farming, defending against daily invasions to earn gold, access to global storage, and even the option to build one crafting station of their choice (limited to one to ensure cities remain relevant).

5. Urgent Server Merges:
It’s absolutely insane that in my server, we’ve been stuck with the same companies dominating since I started playing. There’s no player movement, no guilds accept you, and 99% of players aren’t enjoying invasions or any of the game’s features. This is a dead mode.

6. Don’t Focus Solely on PvP:
I know New World has leaned heavily into PvP, and that’s part of why it’s in this situation. Change that. Balance the scales. 99% of MMO players are PvE-focused.

7. Accelerate the Roadmap:
Not only does the roadmap feel like empty promises, but it’s also too slow. This pace will only cause the game to decline further and eventually sink again. Don’t repeat events; bring real, monthly content. Accelerate all features on the roadmap. Hire more staff. New World can’t afford to be slow anymore—not now.

This, and much more, is what New World needs if it wants to rise as a true MMO contender. If not, then let the 5,000 remaining players enjoy it until the servers shut down. Amazon has the money—buy the tools and make it happen.

Instead of giving out these ideas to no one why don't you just make your own game? New World is Dead World now.

Anything else to say or you done with your toxicity?
You're giving advice that wouldn't work to a dev team that has consistently ignored the community and criticism. The only toxicity here is you. The devs don't even come to this forum anymore, since the last dev got caught giving a bunch of misinformation.

bloody hell, what do you expect? applause? the points you made aren't really a revelation or anything new to begin with. the people here are jaded, not toxic. because the PC players have been dealing with these exact points you raised for the past 3 years and counting. but nothing ever changes with AGS.
Uhm at least I expect comments with respect? Do you know what that word means?
What you say does not line up with reality. It's ironic that in this very thread you accusse others of being toxic... while you're toxic. You claim others of not being respectful... when you aren't respectful to others opinions.

Devs intentionally do not interact on the forums here outside of cursory announcements. Windsward was the only dev that used to consistently interact with the forums otherwise, but he stopped not long after the game initially released.

Devs also have dramatically pulled back from their interactions elsewhere over time as well. Afterall, let's not forget they shut down their own official forums either claiming in the statement at the time that justification was for everything to be focused with discord. However, discord is also rather not on the interactive footing that we even used to see here before the release of the game.

I recognize your desire to dismiss any criticism and erroneously label such a toxicity thinking that will validate your dismissiveness; but really, calling what he said as being toxic is a bit silly of you.

The developers just presented an exciting roadmap and a desire to please console players who are much less toxic than those on Steam. Now I understand why the developers stopped interacting on Steam and other threads, because of people like you or others who have commented on this thread. I wish all the best to this game and THANK GOD that it came out on console and they were able to move away from PC-only players.

Also thanks for calling me silly. I do appreciate that. Didn't get enough insults yet.

Console players are going to give this game a second life.
Have you not seen what has happened with every other "exciting" roadmap they've released?

You want amazon to make a game WE want to play. Amazon makes games that make us want to PAY.

I'll present a much simpler formula for success = replace the development team.

AGS had an extremely promising game. In three years, they destroyed it, ignoring all feedback from players. A real shame!
Young man, don't waste your time proposing solutions that AGS won't even read.

Completely disagree. Why are you on this thread then?

What I'm actually seeing on my thread is that some people is really frustrated (those who started to play 3 years ago to be exact). I LOVE TO BE PLAYING THIS ON MY CONSOLE WITH A NON TOXIC COMMUNITY AND ACTUALLY ENJOYING THIS AMAZING GAME THAT DOES NOT NOTHING BUT IMPROVING.

Welcome to the companies world mate. Must be hard for you to know that every single videogame company is looking for the same thing.

Thanks for the advice but I'm actually a YOUNG WOMAN. Don't assume my genre please and thank you.

I know how.

Make it a single player or co-op game. Take it offline.

Keep all the crafting and let each craft build something cool - kind of like Valheim.

Then add 2-3 giant difficult bosses in each zone, just like Souls games.

After millions people play this new version, bring it back to an mmo.

A population that is shrinking at an alarming rate per day. I can tell you don't have many hours in the game. You'll eventually join everyone else who used to support this game, by turning against when you realize the game doesn't improve and more effort is put into monetization rather than content and fixing thing. Nearly everyone on this forum hated me at one point when I pointed out what the future of this game looked like. And 3 years later... wow was I correct.

Mate you've been playing this game too many hours. It's time to move on. Your time in New World is over. It's fine. There are plenty of other games on the market that will satisfy you or entertain you. But please don't spread your hate on a game that just came out.

A game "that just came out." You mean a game that has been out for 3 years and has little new content added to it. Got it.

I do, actually but you haven't done a whole lot to earn it with your tirades here. but it's obvious that you are very young, so whatever dude.
That's kinda misogynist and toxic from you. Honestly I'm surprised that all of you around here on threads of this game are so so so so toxic. I'm especially surprised since I did a normal post to debate with people and all I got is hate. If you're frustrated don't come at me when I did nothing. I'm pretty sure you have other stuff to do with your life instead of spreading your hate around a good and respectful thread.
