OK THE MINI-MAP MOD, AMAZON IS IT LEGAL ?

Hi all, and hi Amazon.

I have recently heard of a mini-map add-on that is sanctioned by AGS ?

Is this true ?

It is called Overworld or Overwolf or something.

I have also heard that it is legal because 'it does not show resources'.

Please tell me this is rubbish and you are going to stamp it out, or if you have sanctioned it then I guess that's it.

The game is great but unbalanced as it is. That really would be the last nail in the coffin for many.

Interested to hear other people's opinion on this so thanks in advance.

There are discords for the mini maps . The word on discord is that because the mini map is an overlay you can't even be banned unless your caught streaming with it open. In other words the game can't detect the mini map.

I have no idea what the real story is. There are people claiming they have used it for weeks with no ban.

Personally I am pro mini map. I am also pro public API. let the community build mods. I am always pro mods in MMOs.

They have not banned anyone for it yet, nor will they because they can't tell whether the minimal is overlayed on your game or a 2nd monitor, nor can they tell if your minimap is showing resource nodes.

You didn't say anything that contradicted what I said or anything to prove me wrong. There's literally 1 dev saying it's okay while everyone else says it's not. Again, AGS doesn't know how to communicate for anything.

There is literally one official post about it in the one official news section on the one official forums that says it is not, and that is all that matters.

The answer is no.

They've been AWFUL about explaining what we can and cannot have. What Overwolf provides IS against their current ToS.

You can however have MapGenie or the interactive map up on a second screen and use that, and continue to keep opening your in-game map as you run. It's neatly the same thing.

We actually have a lengthy discussion on this, but haven’t posted it yet. We’ll clear up things with that post, hopefully tomorrow.

But I can tell you no one has been banned for an Overwolf minimap unless a mistake was made. This is not a promise that all existing minimaps will forever be ok, because their functionality could change over time in ways we can’t even anticipate right now. We’ll describe (hopefully with full clarity) what is ok in that upcoming post. how does your point stand, it is clearly denied, the minimap uses that information, therefore it is not allowed, you are just a cheater, and trying to justify your cheating, hope you are next on the banning block.

As an update, we continue to discuss this particular addon with Overwolf.

For now, we have made the decision that client-controlled addons which solely use the position of the player in the world are fine. However, if the functionality changes in a way that violates our Terms of Service, such as integrating other web sites to determine where nodes, paths or safe/unsafe areas of the map are, we will first provide an official change in our stance, and then take action.

You missed the point. Yes, that 1 dev said it's okay. Ask CS they say it's not.

I have never used the mini map not once but thanks for your assumption.

Again the mini map can be used as just that, a mini map showing location only, therefore it is usable. You can turn off all the things the devs don’t want you to use.

Why do you think the devs said it’s ok if it’s just uses player location? For fun? No, because you can use the mini map for player location only.

I get you don’t like the mini map and to be honest I’m not really a fan either however certain versions are allowed and the devs clearly stated that in the post I pasted here.
