One of the Devs of New World was a Dev of EverQuest 2, and he obviously had enough clout to shove the crafting system from EQ2 into 'New World', and if he hadn't then the other New World dev's would have probably muttered their mantra: "mmm ... I don't care." and copied the crafting system from Ablion Online too.
And these are the only major differences: 1) The Graphics, 2) the crafting system, 3) the pvp flag systems.
One other thing that I like is some quest that give you more way to interact with the New World. And unique location to discover, unlike Albion copy paste of every map with dj entrance + some portals.
(I love Albion but I think New world will make me stop playing it)
But, if Albion Online were faithfully rebuilt into a 3d engine Ablion Online 3d would blow the doors off New World.
For a MMO Albion is more interactive than a WoW or other taping skill and waiting for cd rotation but NW refine it
a game designed as an Open-World-Full-Loot-PvP-MMORPG, turns off full-loot, adds a flag system, adds a few dungeons and VOILA ... it's a PvE game. That's the PO-WER of marketing.
pvp is basicly non-existent anymore....
- wars rarely happen every couple days and only last for 30 mins for only 100 people total who got choosen by the company leader.
- outpost-rush is a pvevp mode which is pve first with rarely any pvp.
- open world pvp is through flagging, but there is no intention to flag because no xp boost anymore (you only get xp for playerkills, but lose durability if you die yourself and there is no loot).
- at forts pvp doesn't happen too since it's capture&hold and before anyone is even able to get there in time to defend, it's already over (especially people prefer not to fight because of durability loss, which gets very expensive in lategame, and they only want that passiv buff and therefor move away quickly again)
- as in any game with factions it gets onesided sooner or later since no groups can form as new enemies like in clanbased pvp games. this results in even less pvp than there already is.
On top of it for the best gear you need to do a ridiculous amount of PvE for crafting materials.
All of this makes it very much a PvE game in which pvp is only a minor leftover from the first version of the game.
As a pve game this game is actually good, but for pure pvp players it's wasted time and boring.
Graphics are kind of a huge thing. Combat looks kind of lame when your toon moves and resembles one of the Mario Bros. And btw if they are called the Mario Bros is Mario's name Mario Mario?
