Owning the pc steam new world and purchasing Auternum on xbox
I've owned the base New world game on steam for years. Will I have to purchase New World - Auternum to play it on xbox? Surely if I already own the game on pc and it's cross platform I should be able to gain access to the base version of New World - Auternum for free on console? Can anyone clarify this please.

I know that in order to gain access to all the new features new world auternum brings ON PC I'll have to own the expansion pack on PC. But I only own the base game on pc. Where does that leave me when playing Auternum on console? Will I have to purchase the game again on console as if it's a new game to me?

Also, I know the beta is released soon and I want to participate. Will it be available for download on console? I can't find it on the game pass or microsoft store anywhere. I can only find the beta on steam.

I know that progress doesn't carry over and new accounts will have to be made if playing on a different platform but surely the game doesn't have to be purchased again? is that what you're saying? That in order to play auternum on console even though it's already owned on PC, I'll have to purchase it brand new again?

"Surely the game doesn't have to be purchased again"? Yes.

In the history of gaming, when have you ever seen a game given free for console simply because you bought it on PC?

I can't name a single time this has happened in the last half of a century of video games.

that's crazy. thank you for clarifying for me though. I couldn't for the life of me find any information on this anywhere.

How about actually playing and finding the beta on console? will it only be available on pc?

You might be correct, sorry if I come across as an idiot? I wanted to know that's all. Thank you for highlighting this.

My thinking was if I already own the damn game and it's being released on console, why do I have to purchase it again if it's barely a new game.

You don't have to purchase it again, you can keep playing it where you bought it. It's not like you can't just use controllers on PC and have the same experience.

But they have no reason to give you an additional copy of it either.

I completely agree with you. But I no longer own a gaming pc, and my current work computer just isn't up to scratch. So it's console for me :) Thanks again. Does anyone know if the beta will be available for console?

Many games I got for XBOX, it had a code for a free PC version.

Only if you live in an applicable region for the beta.

Also remember you have to have an online sub with xbox to play as well once it goes live.

thank you for your posts. I really appreciate the information shared.

I live in the UK. I wonder if we still get the option. Does anyone know if the beta is available to pre install on xbox consoles yet? I can't see it anywhere on mine

It's one of the (few) perks of the Xbox store. There are some games that have Play Anywhere. I bought Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth recently on PC and then played it on Xbox.

All of play anywhere, I want to see this get on the M$ store. The store supports cross releasing with xbox x / series x / pc. Since they already have a steam release, it would be nice to at least support another store on PC and add the benefit of play anywhere between the two

If it is a Microsoft game it is.

come on, get outside of your steam-box, this has been a thing for YEARS.
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-play-anywhere
"Now when you own an Xbox Play Anywhere digital title, it’s yours to play both on Xbox and Windows 10/11 PC."

For OP:
However, New world is not a play anywhere title, it's possible at some point it might come to gamepass if you're a subscriber, but for the time being if you want to play on xbox, you have to purchase on xbox, on top of that NONE of your characters will carry over, you'll have to start fresh.
