If you want condition damage, I think bow is better since it has bleed, poison and burning.
If you want pure damage, I think musket would be better since the projectile is faster and it's easier to get headshots.
In PvP, I see more bows than muskets, but in PvE, I've seen musket absolutely wreck baddies.
in 5 or 10 man raids, single target musket and bow on bosses is super terrible. Unfortunately these bonehead Devs won't allow dmg meters for you to see it. Although the meta is much despised by newer players, it is more welcoming for melee dps in this game than with bow or musket.
