Starting Areas are forcing where you go

I played like 2 years ago, so did some friends. We could all go to the same starting area. We would see the npcs with an icon over their heads showing they wanted to talk to some one. Well now I come back and start a new guy. The npc send me where they want/need me to go, Monarch's Bluff province my friend went to Windsward province. Neither of us can go to the other's area because no one will talk to us. What gives?

I think you have to get going a little before you can swap over. I got to level 10ish iirc and then moved and it was fine. I actually did both beginner quests cuz I was interested in how they set up the story. You probably just tried to move too early.

After you get out of the tutorial and turn in the tutorial quest, you can run to the other zone. Do not accept any quests until you get to the other starting zone.
