MMO To scratch the itch with a non gamer wife
So i been following New World since Beta and it's really got me wanting to play an MMO again. I've not got New World just yet, waiting for all the launch rush to settle down before jumping in.

With that said it's really got me itching to play an MMO or RPG and my wife who is not really a gamer wants to come along as well to make it a bit more fun. So to fill the gap over the next month or 2 i was thinking what games can i get into with the wife.

We played WOW together about 10 years ago, we also played Guild Wars 1 and 2 in our time but the biggest problem we hit is when the games start to get more complex for a first time gamer lets call it. Too much loot or too many weapons or skills is off putting for the wife.

So my question is, do any fans of these types of games know of any ideally recent (last 5 years) games that are welcoming for a gamer who likes it simple, simple loot, simple skills/weapon choices etc where we can just enjoy and explore a world together.

I'm hoping to get the wife familiar with MMO mechanics in a simpler game in the hope she can also join me when i enter Aeternum in a couple months.

Any suggestions welcome.

My suggestion would be The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). For these reasons:

* The base game client can be purchased for $20 (often less).
* The base game can be played F2P without the sub for hundreds of hours.
* Story and NPCs are top notch, some of the best in the genre.
* It is semi-action combat with just a single set of skills on the bar and weapon swap.
* Playing a melee combat class makes things very easy; other classes a bit more complex.
* ESO does not have the negatives some other MMOs carry with them.

I have played a LOT of ESO and can recommend it without reservation.

Going by your title, Final Fantasy 14.

You're lucky to have a wife who will play any game outside of Farmville or Bejeweled.

Best take advantage of that. That's my suggestion.

well, first thing you should do is to pray that it is still there then.
Second is, tell your wife the same story every day from now on, so that she gets used to boring stuff that repeats every day ... and dont put to much content into it!
Then you might have a chance.

Love this response and trying to take full advantage of it but need to find something the wife can enjoy on a super simple casual level yet holds enough interest to me as a gamer to play it long enough together :)

Are you describing New World in a comical way? I'm a bit slow at sarcasm some times haha

No, i am serious, its sad, but that was no joke
If she did love WoW , she will hate this. I am willing to bet!

Yes ESO would be my sugestion too, good tip.
Not too complicated, but still enough content and story for giving you a lot of fun without being a real "Pro"

If you're looking for a MMO that isn't as complex as your average MMO and pretty casual AdventureQuest 3D might be up your alley.

I'd second the ESO recommendation. There's enough complexity for a veteran to enjoy without things getting too bogged down in details for more casual gamers, a great degree of freedom in choosing one's path through the content (some solid VA and storylines on a lot of the questlines as well), great price point, and from what I've seen around Daggerfall, a fairly vibrant community.

If you are looking for entry level MMO, New World should do the trick. It's very basic and kind of a 'beginner' MMO game I think. It's nothing like WoW, GW2, FF, etc.

Trouble is that New World is currently a raging dumpster fire. The OP's plan of waiting a few months is spot on.

I think the only issues with new world for my wife is there doesn't seem to be any magic casting from the videos i have watched. She normally likes standing at the back using a necro or mage type class and i'm not sure New World caters to that play style, or does it??

Thank you all for the ESO suggestion, i'll take a look. Most MMO's i have played have lots of inventory junk and the wife gets super frustrated having to try and understand what is junk, what can be trashed/sold, what needs to be used as gear so looking for something that has less clutter and just more about the exploration and questing.

Maybe ESO will scratch that so will check it out .

In ESO, the Sorcerer class has been, and continues to be, a top DPS class. Templar is not bad either, though getting up close and personal is also a Templar strength.
