It's easy to understand:
New World will be removed from Steam Store and servers will be shut down.
New World: Aeternum (a brand new game) will be added on Steam Store.
If you have New World's DLC you'll receive NWA for free.
If you don't have New World's DLC you'll have to buy NWA.
do our characters and progress/items carry over into the new version?
Even under the same name, it's another thing, another entry on Steam.
You can see all that on their official website:
https://www.newworld.com/en-us/
It's over, THIS game is over, it will cease to exist in Oct when the new game release. That's why people should Review bomb, we need to change that as fast as possible. Or Amazon Game Studios will give our money back OR it will give the new game for ALL who bought New World, not only the DLC.

"If I already own New World on PC, can I play New World: Aeternum?
Players who own New World (base game) and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will receive a free update on Oct. 15 when New World: Aeternum launches. This free update will bring these players up to date with all of the new content in New World: Aeternum.
Players that own New World (base game) but do not own the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion to get access to all of the content in New World: Aeternum."
If this is in fact true, this might be grounds for a class action lawsuit. I know a lot of people that put money into all those weapon and armor skins.
They are basically throwing all the PC Players in the trashcan and bringing out an entirely different game.
When they shut the official forums down that was the first sign of a red flag.
Game has been in its demise for months now.
Playerbase is bleeding away at an alarming rate, honestly how can they substain 5k+ players and the cost of running the servers.
Then they try to start onthe console players, which will more than likely end up in the same Milking Trap they have done with the PC Players.
Don't trust AGS.
We should all be refunded in full for this, not providing us with a so-called free upgrade when considering you need to have purchased the game and the angry earth dlc .
Not a free upgrade in terms we are actually paying for it.
It's not an mmo either now-they are turnign it into an ARPG.
Waste of money-best thing we can all do is uninstall this and negative review it.
Maybe Valve will listen and act on it and refund us pc Players for all the hell theyve put us through.
Let's goooooo, let's reach Overwhelmingly Negative / Mostly Negative in no time.
There is literally nothing in terms of gameplay that is changing. You can call it whatever you like but the game still plays like an mmo so it is an mmo... Theyve been calling it an action rpg for a long time btw.
There is a HUGE misconception that this is a different game or its seperate. Its literally just an update... it just happens to overhaul a lot of things to improve the game.
Also I hope you know D.A.R.K. is trolling you lmao

I can only imagine you are part of the Damage Control team?
Yeah, bud, it won't work, YOU made the damage, YOU eat the L.

Oh wow you're going nuts with this article by someone who is also confused by the update yesterday. Its staying as an MMO buddy, nothing is actually changing with the game apart from making it more solo friendly. It is still an MMO. The update yesterday was just badly phrased by Amazon for marketing purposes to lure more players in as an ARPG is apparently more attractive to console players.
I understand the frustration as I had the same opinions thinking the exact same as you and I still do find frustration about some things but it is actually staying as an MMO and not too much is changing and actually they are adding more content for when the update arrives. If you read and look. Thats all, i'm not trying to be aggressive just trying to give factual information and stop this spread of false info. Not your fault though as Amazon were crap at that with the dev update.
The main issue is yes people will have to buy Angry earth to access the new update in October. You will still be able to play the game even if you haven't if you haven't bought Angry earth.
"Greetings Adventurers,
In the coming weeks you will learn much more about New World: Aeternum. Players who have already purchased the New World base game and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will receive a free update on Oct. 15 when New World: Aeternum launches.
This free update will bring these players up to date with all of the new content in New World: Aeternum. Players that purchased the New World base game but have not gotten the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion to get access to all of the content in New World: Aeternum but will still have access to everything in the base game. This means if you are playing or have played New World in the past you will not lose anything.
We are excited to share more about the new things you'll experience in New World: Aeternum when it launches, including a fully revamped storytelling approach with enhanced dialogue, in-game cinematics and pre-rendered scenes, the first-ever large-scale PvP zone, a challenging 10-player raid, new end-game solo trials, and more. With New World: Aeternum we want to continue to expand the choices players have in how they play New World to now include the option of more solo content.
We understand there is some confusion today around if New World: Aeternum will feel like the same genre of game as the New World you are playing today, and the answer is yes. New World has never fit perfectly into any label but the New World: Aeternum you will play in October will feel like the same genre of game as the New World you are playing today with lots of improvements, polish, and the opportunity to play with your friends who may be on Playstation, Xbox, or PC."
