I played during launch, what's changed?
I got this game at launch and played for a few months. I came back to try out the Blunderbuss, but I didn't really like it. Was thinking of coming back now though.

What are some of the major changes that have happened since then?

the player base dropped from around 1 million to around 10k, many cheats, many server closings, many bot miners later.. idk they added mounts finally but... put it in a dlc. The world was still littered with the same copy paste enemies last i played.

Everything is gated behind either PVP or daily timers that cost thousands of gold to bring up to 700.

PVP people can go farm an artifact in PVE in less than 10 minutes whereas if a PVE player wants an artifact that drops in PVP, they will have to suffer though dozens of hours and for some drops that don't drop until track 100 then hundreds of hours. The PVP is so utterly broken, they would be better off by simply just starting over than "fixing" anything.

The devs are still beating their heads against the PVP wall and the player count keeps dropping. For some reason, they simply cannot see this.

What are some of the major changes that have happened since then?

1. Current player peak concurrency of the game(just under 30k) is less than 4% of the initial launch peak concurrency of 913k. Year after year the declines of the player base have been rather consistent outside of limited, punctuated upticks from events of content updates/additions.

2. Reasons for why you left are likely still reasons it doesnt retain players up to and including yourself again if you decide to try it again.

3. They added content as mentioned above, revamps areas of the game, and some of the content is through a dlc you must pay for. This includes the current higher level cap and mounts.

4. Likely your character that was on a server is no longer on that server due to 5 or so server mergers And their having also encouraged players to migrate to new servers. Its been like an accordion in those regards. Hopefully your character still remains as well. Some had issues a while back when returning to no characters.

5. Dont use 3rd party translation programs if that's a consideration of yours. That caused a large number of people to get banned over a year ago. Appeal of such decisions is automated and almost never rescinded either.

And the list goes on really.

Just read the updates/news for details, and you can also just check the pages and pages of discussions from players, past and present, concerning issues and other things as well.

All in all though, outside of you buying the DLC expansion, you can load up the game and try again.

Nothing, the game is still the same at the end of the day, you do chest runs to try to get gear upgrades

One thing that hasn't changed is you still gt the same people whose raison d'etre is to badmouth the game. Yet they still play it, or even worse they don't, they lurk around the forum waiting for an opportunity to say something bad.

I too have come back after a break and am having a blast.

A lot that has been stated in a way is negative however a normal phenomenon with MMO titles. 10-20k players on 24 hour basis is a decent healthy population for MMO to thrive. I just got back into the game , have not played since launch, every settlement is full of players including meeting players pretty much anywhere in the world= non issue at this time. Cheaters and bot miners are everywhere, the bigger concern here is how active are the devs to fight the issue? What concerns mobs, literally every MMO has copy and paste mobs, that is non issue as long as there remains to be a variety as well.

Currently:
9,459 playing 43 min ago
15,983 24-hour peak
913,027 all-time peak

Last 3 months from there too:

Month Avg. Players Gain % Gain Peak Players
Last 30 Days 16,398.9 -1,825.8 -10.02% 29,121
December 2023 18,224.7 -6,307.7 -25.71% 30,227
November 2023 24,532.4 -12,862.9 -34.40% 45,836

People can then correlate that data with what halfdose stated and what you've stated.

Evidence thus is rather compelling of the consistent decline, year over year of the game.

That has an impact.

He said how excited he was to see how many would be playing at the end of May. Kinda makes you think he has a biased view. Lets wait until the end of May to see if there are any meaningful changes

I predict... :)

What is his angle... Who's paying him ?

Why..

Could be worse.

I could share his world view.

Enough said I am now going to play the game.

The game is much better now than the launch, there a lot more to do and plenty of grinding. Game lacking players atm, really tough to get hard mode dungeon M3 group that know how to handle themselves. But when you find one, you will have a blast
