there was no 73 GB update. If you had to download 73GB its been a real long time since you played.

yea idk i noticed it keeps downloading and each time i pause and resume the download start back down from 8.8gb...

thats some weird steam thing. Ive got the same problem with Icarus & Ark.
Steam makes a copy of the folder, moves it, downloads the patch, installs then verifies.
Takes up to 2 hours depending on the game.

My new world for example installs 2% then pauses and counts up to 30 months and resumes. This repeats till its done.

Looking at the schedule this update is the "Saturday (10/7): Territory Takedown"... I remember mention of all items that were not claimed from "Old New Light" will be deleted.

i played like two weeks ago and still got a 65gb update without the expansion

Most games have their data in little archive "Chunks". They change anything in that "Chunk" then you have to re download the entire chunk again. If you ever played ark or conan exiles this happens all the time in those games too. If something gets changed or moved in those games you download the entire archive again as well. Doing it like that makes work flow on games faster and easier but comes at the cost of bandwidth, drive health, and time to the end user.
